Newbie from Australia

Just wanted to say what a great forum this is. Like the respect shown on this site.

Have just purchased a 1961 Olds 88 from kjr442. Will be a long term project for me but hope to ultimately make her my daily driver. At the pointy end of my current project which WAS to be my daily but is now much more track/race focused.

Anyway, really like the CO forum.

Welcome to the site, you bought a great project. Love your 67 Mustang and wouldn't mind seeing pics of the 66 Fury.

Brisbane. There seems to be a few of us scattered around. Add yourself to the map. I'm off to check if I'm showing up.

Welcome aboard James.
So your the guy who bought that from Kevin! Looked like a solid car although it was posted upside down prolly in honor of heading down under. It should keep you busy and outta trouble for some time.

You got any firmed up plans for how it'll be finished?

Welcome aboard James. We need to keep the big cars on the street, the 61 is one of my favorite styles!

Not yet. Definitely stock interior and body.

But I plan to keep the car and drive it as my daily. That means I am likely to go with major upgrades to the suspension, brakes and drivetrain. Would keep the original parts if I ever wanted to go back to stock and would tidy them up but (don't hate me for this) am leaning toward a late model LS motor- can't be beaten for price/power and economy and given the intended use it is hard to go past a modern drivetrain. Anyway, time will tell but a definite keeper.

Did you find some spare time, with all the other projects on the go you would only go inside to eat and sleep! Hmmm sounds kinda ideal to me
Welcome to CO and if they have taken to a Croweater like me im sure a Banana bender will be just as welcome:P.
Here is hoping the Olds get the same attention the Mustang has got, because you will have something special and unique for sure!

Yep. How's the weather? Spent about 6 weeks in and around London over Christmas which was cold but had a great time.

Will be a while before I get to this one but just really love the look of the 61 bubble tops. Everything about cars of this era is cool. I'm a big believer in (trying to) doing it right and doing it once even if it costs a bit more. I have zero interest in new cars but do like the way they drive and perform. Way I figure it is if you buy a new car then in a couple of years it is worth a fraction of what you paid so why not spend the $ on getting a car that you really want and make it drive how you want it to? Then just keep it.... And drive it.

The weathers been unusually good for April, which is great now I have the Cutlass back on the road, roof down, shades on, life is good.
Totally agree with you about new cars, unless you get something completely different as soon as you get out the showroom you lose money.
On my BMW I have lost around £30k, might have to keep it another 30 years till it's really rare!
Good luck with the 61 keep the pics coming.
