Newbie with 1964 Olds Super 88

Hello from Fabulous Las Vegas... I just pick up this Super 88 on Sunday. Its fairly straight, has the 394 Ultra High COmpression and I was given the transmission in a bucket.... The Roto-Hydramatic 375 aka Slim Jim ...

The car has minimal rust issues, a few bondo dent repairs and a couple unrepaired dents. The trim is all there and the front grill and bumper looks stright. The interior is in fair to good shape. The was some water damage at the rear package tray and 1/2 the headliner is missing. It could use new weather strip, but you trade rust for rubber in the desert....

I will be looking into rebuilding the stock trans as well as a TH400 conversion from Ross Racing Engines in Ohio and other options....

OK... here is the back of the engine.. it has some sort of damening device to couple the trans to the engine... not the best pics but...

Anyway, your car looks very nice. I really like the lines on those four-door hardtops. Very elegant. It's too bad styling went away from that after the mid-70s.

Looks like a good soild car to work with. I've always loved the raised fenders on the front of this cars. Almost looks like it has fins on the front and back. Very cool car. Good luck to ya.

Ok... took a few more pics today after cleaning the dust off the windows... took some pics of the bad spots too... I think I may have purchased this at the wrong time... I was thinking it needed a tranny and I could just pick up a BOP 350/400 off craigslist.... I am also building a 1967 Chevelle with a 480hp LS3 and T56 with modified chassis and custom interior... The Ross Racing TH350 is about $2500 and I cant invest the money in the Olds right now... I may hold it or sell it if I can get my money back.... After looking at all the pics, I would love the hear feedback as to what everyone thinks its worth....

here are the pics...

If this car could be driven, I would say it's in #4 condition. Driveable but needing full restoration. Given that the transmission is out and it is thus not driveable, it's closer to #5 condition, which means that it's in too good a shape to be just a parts car but has major issues and may or may not run.

The Old Cars Price Guide puts the value of a 1964 Super 88 4-door hardtop in #5 condition at $2160. In #4 condition, it's $3600. These are averages, of course, and any individual car will have plusses or minuses that affect the final value. But they should give you a ballpark estimate. I would say your car is worth $2500 to $3000.

On the plus side the dash is in pretty good shape and the engine looks fairly clean so it probably doesn't leak or blow oil. The chassis looks solid without much rot too. On the minus side the interior needs some attention- bottom of door panels and water intrusion on the back glass area, and of course the transmission is the major detriment to it becoming a driver. If I was in the market for a car like that I would look at it and seriously consider it if it was less than 2 grand but I am a cheap skate.

Hey, anyway welcome to CO and hope you either can find a way to get a transmission into the car or sell it to someone, maybe here at CO.
