New from Tx - 67 Cutlass
New from Tx - 67 Cutlass
Hey All,
I am new to the cutlass community and looking forward to learning and sharing. I have been doing a lot of reading and I am excited to be a part of the community and already have a couple of questions.
I have read that there are a lot of decent manuals to choose from for the cars and I think I am going to purchase from Faxon. I was looking at getting the assembly and service manuals for the 67 cutlass. Anything else I should be looking into? Also checked "auto history" site that was mentioned but it is now a paid access for manuals, etc.
Could also use some help with the Cowl Decode. I tried to look it up and see that it was a 67 cutlass originally aquamarine with black interior. But I was confused on some of the code. Any help?
Thank again!
-Josh

Welcome to the site from another Texan. Your car looks to be in really good shape from the outside. There are a number of folks here that can help you with decoding your tag. By the way, the N Texas Olds club is having their Zone Show not too far from you here in Granbury. It's a fun get together and you'll meet a lot of great people. There is also the Sweethearts and Orphans show in Granbury where you will see a number of local Olds folks as well as a lot of great cars, See links below.

Welcome. Looks like surprisingly little rust for a Framingham-built car. You need the Chassis Service Manual and the Fisher Body Manual. The Assembly Manual is nice to have but not mandatory. Get paper originals, not repros or CDs, which can have reproduction issues. There are currently a boatload of CSMs on ebay, starting at $5.00.
Welcome, checkout the North Texas Oldsmobile Club, we're an active club with events throughout the year.

Welcome aboard,
I learned to drive in a 67 Cutlass. Didn't like the 2 speed Jetaway as much as I would have liked to learn on a stick. Oh well....
As for the cowl tag decode? Here ya go

04B - Date build code at Fisher Body Works Framingham. Second week of April 1967. The extra F I have no idea why it was stamped.
ST-67 - 1967 model year (note: model year builds started around August and finished the following June/early July)
3 - Oldsmobile division of GM
38 - Model : Cutlass Supreme with V8
17 - Body Style : 2 door Holiday Coupe
FRA - Framingham Fisher Body Works plant that built the body and installed interior. This is NOT the assembly line.
BDY 7263 - Body number assigned to this build as FRA FBW. Not related to VIN
TR 970 - B - Black interior with strato bucket seats
PAINT K 2 - Aquamarine lower with black vinyl roof
Option codes
Column 1
W - Tinted glass, windshield only
Column 2
X - Floor mounted Automatic Transmission - used with (D55)
G - Console - (D55)
Column 5
M - this is an unknown code for some bizarre reason. No one seems to know what it's for.
Does that help?

I missed this post when it was new. Josh, that's my old car! Bought it at the Dallas Can Academy Auction in about 1996 I think.(I took those old Anson slots off of a 71 Cutlass S from Illinois that I had. Frame rusted in half just behind the rear axle.) I sold it in 2014 to a son of a friend who was bugging me for it for years, said he always wanted to build it, but he really wanted to flip it. I'd have kept it, had I known. He wants a couple of my other cars...
I started razor blade stripping that thick paint on the front corner just to see how easy it would come off. It shouldn't be too hard to strip, it came off in big chunks. I converted the under dash a/c unit in it to 134 and it would freeze you out. I always planned to paint it the original color of aquamarine.
Joe it might not be rusty looking for a Framingham car but it has the usual. Around front windshield, rear corners of rear window, trunk floor and both sides front floor. Bottom of front windshield is the worst. I sold it with a new repair panel for the cowl. Glad to see it went to someone who wants to fix it up. Pictures show it with vinyl top still in place and 15 inch Indy slots that are currently on my 67 convertible, with new tires of course.
