New kid here from northwest Ohio. I found this place due to a search for information concerning drilling an automatic Olds crankshaft for a pilot bearing. definitely helped me out. So I thought that I'd become a member and maybe add my 2 cents worth as time went by.

I'm a little concerned that my Olds isn't considered a classic, so maybe it doesn't belong here. It's a 1982 Delta 88 that I'm converting to a manual 5 speed. It's not the best looking thing as the paint has failed and the headliner dropped but there is surprisingly little rust. So, I intend to forge ahead with it.

So far, I've added '96 S10 Xtreme 16 inch wheels along with B-body cop car (RPO 9C1) front and rear sway bars. I had the steering box rebuilt by Red Head to be a 12:1 non-variable ratio unit with the hope of quickening the steering, but that upgrade didn't really make much of a change, at least nothing like the 9C1 sway bars did.

Presently the car still has its tired 307 with the stock electronic Quadrajet and the 2004R transmission. I intend to drop in an Olds 350 (which is now undergoing a rebuild in a local shop) but I'd like to add TBI injection to it.

I'd also like to see a serpentine belt on the 350 when all is said and done as I like the clean look and replacement ease of that type of belt.

But it all boils down to time, money, and ambition. For me, trying to get all three of those together is like trying to herd housecats, though.

Most of us got the bug with a car that looked more like a clunker than a classic, so don't feel bad about that. Please post pictures of your car when you have time. You don't need to have a "classic" to be part of our community. Feel free to 'lurk' or participate whenever you want.

I think you'll see a big improvement with dropping a 350 into your ride. IMO that's what it should have had to start with. There are plenty of threads on this site about rebuilds to the Olds 350 that you can peruse. Use the 'search' feature at the top of the page.

Post some pics of your ride, doesn't matter what shape it's in now. Keep us updated with your progress and, again, post lots of pics. We Olds nuts loves pics!

 

Welcome to our site fellow Buckeye! Where abouts are you located here in the Rustbelt? I had an 84 and and an 85 Delta 88 once upon a time. My favorite has always been the 72 Cutlass though!

I do have plenty of photos that I intend to post, but I need to become more familiar with the forum, first.

2blu442 and Cutlassgal, I live in Bryan. If I lived 10 miles west of here, I'd be a Hoosier; 15 miles north and I'd be a Michigander. No problem, though, as I speak fluent southern Michigander, northwestern Buckeye, and northeastern Hoosier. Comes with the territory, I guess.
