New member saying hi.

Hello everyone,
My name is Aaron.
I am 24 years old and live in Seattle Washington.

With the death of my grandfather a few years ago I received in the will a 1931 Oldsmobile rumble seat business coupe. It has been sitting in the garage ever since and my dad and I have recently been looking to get working on it now that a few projects have cleared up.

I currently own:
1991 F150 Lariat
1966 Porsche 912
2007 Subaru WRX

and my dad owns a 1923 Model T

We have been working on all of our vehicles for a while now and we really want to get started on the Olds. We have done some researching and the tag on the firewall says its a fisher body. From what I understand the Fisher bodies were used on many brands including GM, cadillac, pontiac, and multiple others. My question is, was the fisher body the same on the GM and Oldsmobile in 1931? We are looking at going the hot rod route and want to take off the fenders and throw a chevy crate engine in it. We are basically just trying to figure out if the motor mounts would be the same and if the frame is similar for all brands for the fisher body style?

Thanks for looking,
Aaron

Here are some photos, don't have any of the Olds because it is dirty.

welcome

welcome to co , hardly ever see those early oldsmobiles. imo an olds motor of any vintage would look better than a chevy in there. a 371 or 394 with a j2 setup is as nice a looking hotrod motor you will find.

Welcome to the site Aaron. Wow, that's a pretty awesome stable for a 24 yr-old. That Porsche is very cool!!
I'm on the "please show pics of that Olds...good, bad or ugly" bandwagon. You just don't see too many of them anywhere.
Good luck with your project(s).

Sorry to see it go the way of the generic seen one you have seen them all bow tie route but it's your ride do as you like. Pictures would be nice.

Once you pull the original engine out there will be a big enough hole there to fab mounts. ...Tedd

Wow, that is a nice little '31. Back in 1931, you would have likely been on the higher end of the economic ladder to own that. You could slide your golf clubs in the little door on the side, stick your mother-in-law in the back seat, and off to the country club you would go with your beautiful wife!

Is there any way I can talk you out of "hot rodding" that? The AACA guys would be pounding the letters off their keyboards over that, lol! Good luck with it, but remember they can be hard to find that nice.

Welcome to CO Aaron!

Grandpa left you a gem! I would leave it as-is...make it safe to drive with new tires, brakes, belts, hoses, etc. Then, enjoy!

If you want to make a hot rod; buy a fiberglass street rod kit. Once you start chopping up history, you cannot put it back.

Your car...your call.

That is a great looking car you got from your grandfather. I would never tell someone what to do with their ride but the thought of that piece of history being cut up is disappointing. If you have your heart set on an old hot rod, maybe find a rougher, old Ford?

I hope you decide to leave it stock since it is so nice. I have a good friend in Denver that has a very nice 31 and a 54 coupe that matches my 54. I really think you will be sorry if you streetrod this car.

Thanks everyone I am glad you all like the pictures. As far as making it into a hotrod we would not be chopping anything up. most likely we would be getting a different frame and the only thing to the current body would be just the removal of the fenders. If we wanted to down the road it could be completely put back to original form. I do have one question though...

What is the similarity between the Oldsmobile Fisher bodies and the other brand Fisher bodies such as GM, pontiac, cadillac of the same year?

I have looked and haven't been able to find much.

Thanks,
Aaron

Do the car a favor and sell it to somebody that appreciates it for what it is. This car will bring a nice price. Then go buy yourself something else to make a steetrod out of. It is your car and you will do what you want but making a streetrod out of this gem is a big mistake that you will regret one day.
