Hello,
I just joined this website. My name is Kathy. I am the very proud owner of a 1983 Toronado Brougham Convertible since 1988. I use my car all the time. Due to an unfortunate accident, I had to have my car handicap equipped back in 1996 so I could continue driving it. From spring to fall I have the rag top down every chance I get. Great way to get a tan !
I stumbled across this website while searching for some minor parts that appear to be obsolete or nobody has actually heard of my car. I know from past research, that approximately 500 of these cars had been reconfigured into a convertible. I hope I can get some advice or help finding these power window switches.

Hey Kathy...and welcome to the club! This is a great forum and you'll find that there are great people on here. You definitely have a rare Oldsmobile and that is always an added bonus. I have seen one or two of these cars in the past but very few and far between. Since the convertible really is a hardtop less it's original metal roof, I would be led to believe the switches carry over. What is actually wrong with the switches and where have you been looking for them?

Hi John,
Thanks for the warm welcome. The problem is with the driver's master control switches that operate the rear two (2) windows. This particluar switch has two (2) buttons with five (5) prongs. I have contacted many on-line websites as well as calling Dorman Products, Rock Auto Parts, Advanced Auto Parts, most of the local verdors in my area and several others that are out of state. The switches function in the down mode but will not raise the right passenger window. Believe me when I say, that did not stop me from putting down all the windows and dropping the rag top for a nice sunny ride. In order to raise the right rear window, I have to lean into the back and use that specific switch. If you have any ideas or know of a facility that might carry this switch, I would greatly appreciate your help or anyboby else that might know of this item.
Thanks again,
Kathy

hey Kathy,

I wasn't thinking about the rear windows! If the windows are still working with the specific switch at that window, then the problem is obviously the master control. It's very possible that the contacts may be a little worn and lose on your switch. Are you able to remove it to check? I would think you may be able to repair your existing switch, especially if a replacement is going to be so hard to find. Sometimes something like this can be fixed rather than replaced. I have a 4-window switch from a '76 Ninety Eight but I wouldn't count on it being the same as your Toro.

Hi John,
Thanks for getting back to me so quick. Checking for worn connections is a great idea. I have actually taken then entire master switch control panel off the driver's door armrest and taken pictures that were emailed to some of the vendors. I guess I'll have another go at it myself. My machanic is great but somethings I'm learning to do on my own.
In reference to your car, I have found alot of one or four button switches, but none of them will work in this car. The front master has a two button, six prong switch and the back master has a two button, five prong switch.
Thank you for your good advice, I'll let you know if it works.
Kathy

Hi Joe.... Thank you for your welcome.... and yes I guess you could say we are in Zooo Jersey. Maybe we will cross paths safely one day. During the summer I'm all over Somerset, Union, Middlesex, Momouth and Ocean counties, normally flying down one of the main highway with the rag top down. Stay safe.

Thank you for such a warm welcome. I just realized my problem was the settings on my camera that was causing the problem with posting pictures on this forum. Today, I posted more pictures, I hope you'll take a look. Yes I am very happy that I owned this car before becoming disabled. The equipment I required was installed without causing any damage to the leather interior so I can continue cruising down the highway with the rag top down.
