Hi all I am a new member from Australia, I did post months ago but haven't been back. I have 2 ,1962 f85's which I am restoring for my two kids. As my daughter will be driving one I want to fit power steering and have found a steering box etc for a 1963 f85. As I'm in Australia I can't find many parts. if any one could tell me if the 1962 and 1963 f85's take the same box it would be much appreciated . When I figure out how to post pic's I will put some up.
Welcome.
The steering boxes should be the same, but the pitman arms will be different. The 1961-62 cars used a drag link that connected to pitman and idler arms that had machined in ball fittings. The 1963 cars use a more conventional center link with tapered studs. I don't know if the 62 manual steering pitman arm will work with a power steering box. I do have a 62 parts car with power steering, but I probably can't get to looking at the parts for a while.
Also note that the steering shaft in the column is different for the power and manual steering (at least they are for the 1962 model year). One has a rag joint at the box, the other has a u-joint.
