Hello,

New member near Richmond Va.

After giving up the hot rods for 15 yrs, I found (and bought) a great deal on an '83 H/O last weekend. All original, garage kept, 81k miles. Drives great. Mostly needs some interior work, spoiler wing tips, weatherstripping, and a few small mechanical odds and ends (blower motor, window motor, etc). According to the VIN this is #579 of the 3001. The car has Chevy Rally wheels instead of the Old's wheels.

Looking forward to being a part of this forum as I learn more about the car.

Steve

We can take care of that nonsense . Someone over on oldspower.com was peddling a set of correct chrome Olds SSII a while back. Seems like someone here had some too.

Sometimes I wonder if sticking Chevy Rally wheels on everything is a Vajenya thing. People here in the Southside are obsessed with it. They even want to put them on Fords. Why, I do not know.

www.hurstolds.com . Eastern Virginia Olds Club is based in Richmond and one of their officers has an 83. There's also one in Lynchburg and at one time there were an 83 and 84 in South Boston, though I haven't seen them in a while.

Glad to have you aboard. Yes get rid of those chebby wheels. Your Olds will refuse to go straight and spit oil all over the place

Thanks. I already have a Hurst Owners club application printed out, to go in the mail tomorrow. Will look into the Eastern Virginia Olds Club. This is my first Olds, and have been out of the car loop for some time, so am really trying to learn what I can and what resources are out there.

Actually when the funds come around to get the right wheels on it, I think the Rallies will look spiffy on my truck...yes it is a Virginia thing, lol...

Welcome Steve. This is a great place to learn more about what you have and how to make it even better than it is today.

Well, when you put that spin on it...

God help when they figure out how to make a 24" Chevy Rally.

The wheels you need are similar to the one in oldsca's avatar. Where his on the 442 have gold painted spokes, Hursts use a dark argent with a red stripe on the rim.

www.oldsclub.com then search chapters. EVOC contact information will be in there. George & Linda Cosier are your contacts. Good people.

Welcome. Nice to see another one alive.

There was a guy on gbodyforum parting out an 83. I think he had the proper wheels but dont recall if they sold. They dont come up for sale very often. I happen to find a set on craigs list two years ago. Be patient.

If you are interested in a set with the gold centers (even though they are not correct) let me know.

Wings tips can be found on ebay. I think the sellers name is scottsolds. Very unlikely to find original wing tips and if you do id say they are going to be very expensive.

I have to confess, I am amazed at the resources and communities there are for Oldsmobiles. Thanks everyone for the welcome and for the suggestions. Sent the app for H/OCA today...

Bummer. Really looked at some things closely this afternoon, and I am confident the car has been painted at least once. It was a VERY good paint job, but the giveaway is that the "15th Anniversary" decals were applied over top of old ones, and not aligned perfectly...so the old ones are there but painted over. You can just make them out where not aligned. Now I get to wonder about collision and rust repair...

Darrell,

Thanks for the kind words!

I have some more pics here at:
https://classicoldsmobile.com/forums...hp?albumid=597

For some reason it doesnt show up in the public albums even though it is listed as such.
