Hello fellow Oldsmobile appreciators. I just joined Classic Oldsmobile.com. Saw the web site when looking for information regarding my rebuild. I've always liked Oldsmobiles, and this 1969 442 is the third Olds I've owned. I'm having this one rebuilt with the objective of having a fun-to-drive, reliable, but wickedly powerful cruiser, even though it might not be NOS-correct.

Welcome to the site! Its your car to build as you wish, but being a 442 I'd encourage you to tuck away any 442 specific parts you don't use. Cutlass I'd say it doesn't matter, but a 442 is a different story. Someday you may want to be able to return it to original. If you look at the value and demand for cars with the original drivetrain vs those modified original is the way to go. I've put power steering and power disc brakes on my 1969 & 1970 cars as I plan to drive them often. But I did keep the manual drum brakes and manual steering boxes. The 455 is a better engine than the 1968-69 400's for making power, but if your car still had the 400 I'd encourage you to tuck it under the workbench for safe keeping. My 2 cents, I'm not trying to pick a fight but share some thoughts. For now have fun with your car, and again welcome to the site! John

John makes some very valid points about your car; definitely keep the parts. If you decide you don't want them, put them up in the PFS section of the forum. 1969 is a one only year for a lot of Cutlass/442 items

Have tremec T6060 6 speed trans, Moser Ford 9" posi rear with 4.11 gears, and am having original 400 upgraded to ~496 ci using 455 block and steel stroker crank kit. Hopefully it'll all be done by this Spring.
