New here...many questions about 56 rocket 88
I'm new to the olds brand I have recently acquired a 56 olds rocket 88 now this car has no engine no interior not much of anything but it does have a solid body is a 4 Dr and has a ton of chrome that came with it I've been doing slot of research on this car thanks to the web and this forum but I have allot of other questions that I can't find answers to and hopefully I can find them here....so thanks for letting me hang here and thanks to all who have made this forum possible...Shawn
Thanks Eric...resto mod most likely but it'll never be a show quality car my girl friend gave me the car cause I said I liked it and it was given to her and had been sitting doing nothing for at least 5 yrs...I'm thinking more along the lines of a fun car kinda like a brawler quick fun bare bones 2 seats and a gas pedal lol at one point I was thinking gasser but I found a disc brake conversion by scare crow or something like that but I'm prolly gonna find a donor (sshhhh) chevy car for engine trans column brakes etc....but once again not sure yet that why I want to ask questions first...I would definitely entertain the idea of a 455 th-400 if I could find the right stuff....but I grew up mopar and don't know much about these cars but I want to do the car and brand justice
Check this guys car out.

If you search the forums you'll get a bunch of info. If you can fab your own brackets and weld, anything is possible with these old cars.

Thanks again...that almost what I had envisioned for my 4 Dr that is really cool....I think the only difference is I would go for a more drag look than a touring look....but thanks again Eric....keep sending ideas lol
Welcome Shawn and good luck with your '56. There are many '54- '56 owners and many questions and answers, especially if you will drop down to Vintage Olds section. Larry

Welcome, I have only been here a while and have learned lots and have found lots of great reference materials as well.
Always good to find a maintenance manual to start with, Rock Auto has them pretty reasonable.

Welcome aboard, lots of good information found here and I second the idea of getting a shop manual, best investment you can make on your car. When you need help drop on down to the vintage forum (that's where a lot of us fifties guys live) and ask away....Lost in the fifties ...Tedd
Welcome. There seems to be a growing number of us 50's owners on here. This is a great place to be. I would tell anybody that a shop manual is the first thing they shoudl buy when that get an old car. They are easy to find on ebay and the prices vary a lot so check them before you click on that buy button.
The problem I'm gonna have is....I think....is that my car is a shell that's it has all the chrome trim even the 20lbs rocket that goes on the hood lol...all the chrome looks like a quick buff job and would be pristine I'm gonna have to go custom with allot of the work I'm not driving a car that is over 50 yrs old on the road with today's cars that can stop I will be going to disc brakes and eliminating the under floor brake system....also I have no motor for the car I think I have the trans but still unsure it looks manual but no motor mounts or anything like that....my biggest concerns are wiring(painless kit??) The rear end ..I know there strong but I don't know the condition can I run it with out the torque tube and condition and gears I was told it was a56 but can't verify yet I can't even post pics cause of my tablet no cooperating I'm thinking highly about a455 combo I just want it to be a fun car take it to the car shows and park it next to my girlfriend's chevelle...hopefully this can shed some light on the direction of like to go....Thanks Shawn
