new guy needs help.

Hi guys.. new to this forum and I am in the process of restoroding a 1957 supper 88 two door hardtop. the car is in pretty decent shape but I found out the engine block has a couple of cracks from freezing.

I have not had an Olds engine for many years and don't know anyone. I would like to get a good 371 Olds block or complete engine if anyone knows of one that is not crazy expensive.

thanks

Post your general location/zip code. These things are heavy and cost a bundle to ship. You might find one close to your location

You may want to expand your search to 394's too. Everything up through 1964 will bolt up to your 57 tranny if you use your 57 flywheel and starter housing. You may have to grind the block in the bellhousing area a little for flywheel ring gear clearance. Mounting positions are the same so they "drop in".

If your in the Pacific Northwest here's a Craigslist ad for two 1958 and one 1959 Oldsmobiles.

https://classicoldsmobile.com/forums...olds-sale.html

A couple months ago there was a 1957 Olds 98 for sale as a parts car on the Medford Craigslist. I know they're still around in this part of the country.

Thanks guys... I forgot to say that I live in Northern Ca. near Sacramento.

The link to the craigslist doesn't seem to work for me but good to see there are still cars out there.

So all the 394's will work with my mounts and trans.? I was wondering how I could use the 371 flywheel tho since the the 394 is externally balanced I think?

And so is the 371, 324 are internally balanced but changed in 57 for the 371 but the flywheel weights may or may not be the same on the different flywheels. You might give Kevin at Rocket Racing a call on this (330 544 4465) he deals with this issue all the time and will point you in the correct direction...Tedd.....

Since you guys are being so helpful tho... does anyone have a 57 super 88 rear bumper in decent shape?

If you are going to use a 60 engine then you shouldn't have any problems dropping it in. The flywheel and the lower housing are the same from 57 to 60. 1961's and later are the ones that may need some grinding of the block to get the larger 57-60 flywheel to fit.
BTW there were two rear bumpers offered for all 57 Olds models. Depends on whether or not they were equipped with dual exhaust . The rear bumpers came in two halves, rt.& lt.

glad I joined this group and get to pick you guys brains. My bumper is 3 piece (5 if you count the inserts)... the center is the bad part on mine with some "hit the pole" damage. the two outer or ends seem fine and have vents in them that look like exhaust ports.
