New Guy checking in - 71 Cutlass "S"

Hey all -

Like the subject says - I'm the proud owner of a 71 Cutlass S, 350/2bl, TH-350. I live in Austin, TX.

Here are a couple of pix of the Cutlass (I hope):

This car has mostly original paint (code 26 Viking Blue). It has been in the same family since it was purchased new in Dallas Texas.

Welcome aboard. Really nice looking car. You planning to straighten or replace the front bumper?

I forgot to mention that. My father-in-law bought it new. While not really a gearhead, he is a meticulous guy and he loved the car and took good care of it. The car is very stock.

I have been casually looking for a bumper for years. I will replace it one day. Basically waiting on an opportunity to get one.

once the bumper is removed w no brackets etc onit they can be manipulated pretty easy. mine was pretty bad and i was able to tweak it to "acceptable" driver w out much trouble.

My '71 Cutlass S has has the "S" logos on the sail in the same general position, and nothing on the fenders. Mine is a Fremont car sold in the Canadian market.

My '72 has them on the fenders.

The OP's car looks great, and how awesome to be a one family car!

Very, very, very cool. You might want to consider leaving it exactly as is - no 442 clone, W-25 hood, 4bbl "upgrades" etc... I hope to see it someday!

Did your car came with a vinyl top from the factory?

That is a very nice car. I would probably do a 4bbl and a nice set of dual exhaust without headers and that would be it. Love those wheels.

One other thing, welcome from another Texan.

Hey all -

Thanks for the interest. The car has had some minor body work, but I assume the "S" emblems are in the factory location. I will try to confirm with the FIL exactly what repairs were done before.

I do not plan to restore or modify the car at all. I had the itch to work a car over, but I just did not have the heart to tear into this one as it was so un-commonly stock. I bought a 78 Trans Am for a "project". The SSI wheels are the only mod I made. I bought them and restored them and put the TA Radials on, but I kept the steelies and secretary hubcaps.

By the way - driving that car with 14" narrow wheels and bias-ply tires was a horrific experience... scary! Cars have come a long way.
