New Guy - 1970 Cutlass Supreme Holiday Coupe

Hey All,

First post to this forum and recently picked up a 1970 Cutlass Supreme Holiday Coupe with a stock 350 Rocket. I'm in the beginning stages of the restoration and naturally every time I fix one thing, I find another that needs to be added to the list. Keeping with tradition, I'm doing things like the carb, valve covers, etc and noticed that my TCS solenoid is falling apart. The vacuum t-line that is coming out was electrical taped into it from the previous owner. Anyone know if that solenoid is something I can pick up online somewhere? I know it's not a required part however what performance issues, if any, are experienced without a functioning solenoid?

welcome, I recently joined also, have been lurking for a while.

Love the Cutlass Supreme, I think Ive had9-10 of them over the years(Just one now)

TCS-transmission controlled spark is purely an emissions item, it controls the amount of vacuum advance depending on throttle position and coolant temp. If its not a restoration, you can remove it and hook up direct vacuum to your distributor( check timing after making this change)

I love the CS. Great looking car. I recently bought a 69 CS and boy does it need work. Post some pictures of your ride when you get a chance.

Updated: Pics per requests

Thanks for the welcomes, I too have been visiting the forum for a while to read some of the ideas bouncing around and recently joined to jump in too. Here's a couple of pics of the new family addition. As stated above, it's a 1970 Cutlass Supreme Holiday Coupe that was bought new in 1970 by my wife's uncle. He passed away a couple years ago and this poor girl was sitting in a driveway up here in Jersey and paid the price for being out in the seasons. When I found out, I had to get her so I can bring her back to life, just not a car I can leave sitting there. She's rough and needs a lot of work but still beautiful to me and the good news is the interior was recently redone so it's basically body, paint, wheels and engine...you know....all the 'little' things.

Wow, great shape, with a good rub/polish I bet the paint would come back to like.
Those rust stains on the front bumper arent hard to remove either, would make it shine good enough for a driver.
