Hi fellow Olds enthusiasts
My name is Peter & we live in New Zealand. We have 2 cars - a 1960 Super 88 2dr HT which is a tidy "driver" & was purchased off Ebay 2 yrs ago & then made the long trip from Virginia(on a truck to LA) to Auckland, NZ! The other car is a 1956 Super 88 convert. which is a full "resto" project. It has an interesting history (found it in Singapore in the early '80's) & we have owned it for a longggg time but are only now starting to get serious with it! This website is a great idea to share a "common interest" I would be interested to correspond with anyone who has knowledge of my era cars. Thanks & best regards to all, Peter

Hi Guys, Thanx for the warm welcome. I have a couple of Queries
1) -recently lifted the body off the chassis of the 56, the mounts were just a combination of hvy flat washers & packers! I see Fusicks do some resilient type mounts. Any exper with this?
2) Was thinkn of changing the Jetaway Trans to a later model TH350 or 400, but adapter kits for the early engines (324 & 394) seem a bit scarce. Anyone been down that track?

Hi Don, trans in the '60 drives ok but leaks quite a bit (have done the easy seals) The cond. of trans in 56 is unknown. Have 2 friends with these trans & after spending quite a bit for full o/haul they were not that happy with them. Thought it mite be better to spend the money on a more robust trans. Have read about other 50's cars that have had later trans adapted to them, but no Olds. Do you have experience with the Jetaway trans? Rgds, Peter

 

Sure, Pete... All of the Jetstar 88's had them as standard equipment.

My Blue Belle has 56,000 miles on her and the Jetaway was rebuilt at 48,000! I think it's an OK transmission, quite simple, and less parts! The acceleration is very good. I would just fix the car and drive it. You can always spend the big bucks later!
