New Cutlass Owner - 71 Cutlass S
Hi all,
I've always been a fan of the 70-72 Chevelles and Cutlasses. I've thought it would be cool to restore one with my son.
November of last year I was visiting family in Utah when my cousin dropped that he had a 71 Cutlass he was looking to sell. Turns out he was renting an apartment to an older lady who passed away in 2008. When my cousin went to clean out her apartment to get it ready for the next tenant, they found this cutlass sitting in her garage. She didn't have any kids and my cousin took possession of it. He drove it from her garage to his and it sat...for 12 years.
So I made the trip down to Utah this week to see if I can get it running and drive it home to Eastern Washington (10-12 hours)
New battery and a shot of starting fluid was seriously all it took to get running. Transmission needed about 4 quarts of fluid (possible leak I'll find later)...but it made it home!
Looking forward to learning lots and restoring this to its prime
My son snapped a picture of me driving (somewhere in Idaho or Oregon)

I was really worried because my cousin isn't a "car guy"
That was evident when I put the new battery in, turned the ignition on and the fuel gauge showed 3/4 of a tank...so about 15 gallons sitting there for 12 years...color me shocked when it started and ran
