My New Toroanodo GT

My New Toroanodo GT
Hi All. I'm a car guy from way back and just bought my first Olds. I've always wanted a Toro and ran into one at the Spring Carlisle Auction. It ended up being a better buy than I thought. A 70 GT with 42,000 actual miles and aparently 1 repaint! My best guess is that it sat in storage for years.
It needs some TLC to get it back to a #2 level, but I have a few immediate issues.
1. No upshift until it hits the govenor at 50 & 80 mph. It also freewheels before it shifts up.
2. It overheats possibly (Due to #1?)
3. I need all 4 hubcaps
any suggestions would be appreciated.

Welcome, congrats on your new purchase. Very nice.
For #1, Check for vacuum at modulator (must be hooked to manifold vacuum), or for bad modulator.
#2, Flush cooling system, replace thermostat, replenish with fresh 50-50 mix. Perform a complete tuneup.
#3, Perhaps a another member can point you in the right direction.

Ok, I should have explained a bit more. I figured out the kick down circut was stuck and it though it was in WOT all of the time. I had already put a vacume mod and checked with a hand held pump. It shifts now.
I have tried the following for the overheating issue. It has the shroud and I replaced the fan clutch, T stat and refilled with all new anti-freeze in a 50/50 mix. The water pump is not noisy or leaky. I'm stumped.
Now that it shifts It seems that the secondaries on the carb don't work. Something for another time to fix. At least I can take it on short drives now.

If the radiator is original chances are its corroded inside and tubes are blocked. You can look inside cap hole and see if the tube ends have white calcium buildup...a sure sign the rest of the radiator is not up to snuff.

Thanks to everyone for the ideas. It seems that the tranny cooler was overheating the Radiator. I also changed the plugs and rad cap and it seems to be ok. I haven't run it on the interstate yet but around town i had no issues.
