My new '72 Cutlass Convertible

Hey everyone, some pics of my recently purchased '72. Not my first Olds, but first in 20 years, so I may have alot of questions. Now if I can just fix the idling issue.. Looks like you have a good little community here.

The idle is "pulsing" , thats the only way I can describe it. I tried the trick with gumout, spraying it around on the intake to find the leak etc. But no success, I'm thinking of sending the carb in for a rebuild but don't want to lose the car for a week +/-... Any thoughts what might cause this?

I heard others on this forum talk about vacuum leaks as one potential cause of idle issues. You can visually check all the vacuum hoses in the engine compartment to see if there are any cracks, holes, or are unattached from their source. It kinda sounds like you already tried this around the intake manifold, but there are numerous other locations to check. I had all the "soft" pieces replaced on my car shortly after buying it.

To find more info on the problem you can type "idle issue" or "pulsing idle" in this site's Search engine to find various discussions on the topic. In some cases you can see related threads listed at the bottom of the page.

Nice ride, welcome to CO and I do like Radiant Green. Getting that way that we'll need a separate forum for 72 convertibles before too long. There's a new one joining every week.

Welcome. Very nice car. There are a number of us on here with 72 Cutlass convertibles. I am kind of partial to them since the one I have is my second one. I have had it 17 years. There is lots of knowledge here with people who are glad to help. Enjoy your car.
