My New '52

Hi guys. I have just bought my first Olds. A 1952 Super Rocket 88. Has the yellow lettering on the valve covers "Oldsmobile Rocket". I am a Volkswagen expert mechanic and own several, but my first car was a '51 Pontiac, and this Olds reminds me of it some. The car had been parked in 1966 I am told, and sat for 40 years. Real straight. I am going to have some fun bringing it back.

For the love of Heaven, whatever you do, don't forget that this car uses antifreeze, and that the engine in the front isn't an "extra" that someone put in the trunk.

Welcome to ClassicOlds.

anti freeze?

Anti freeze? what's that? With my VWs I have saved several $ there.
Thanks for the welcome. It is raining here in California this year. I drive a Peterbuilt, and have been busy past few weeks. But was able to get new wheels and whitewalls on the little beauty today. Radiator (Jeez, another new thing), down at the shop getting pressure tested today.
I look forward to bringing the Rocket motor back to life. The seller showed me a video of it running. He installed a new water pump and coil/distributor.
Somewhere down the road, I will find that upper bumper and turn assemblies. Man, dual ashtrays.! Best to you all. Robert Lee

I too was a VW mechanic for many years till I met my 59 Olds in a Antique store a few years back. Since th en I have had several nice classics including a 58 thunderbird and 65 galaxies 500. Fell in love with the 55-56 Olds and shipped till I found it. In Mass of all places with no rust. Liking forward to driving it soon as I fix all the wires the P.O. fried. Lol. Good luck with the 52.

Welcome to Classic Olds .You might want to check with Desert Valley Auto Parts ,they have a '52 and (3) '53's listed that indicate that they have some of those missing parts . Larry

Welcome aboard, I too a'm a lover of the post war Oldsmobile's and yours looks like it will be a good one to start on.

I also live in California and if I may ask what part of the state do you call home?

Should you run into old Oldsmobile related issues drop on down to the vintage forum, lots of good friendly help hangs there. When you get a chance post a few more pictures for us to admire, we love the start of new projects..... Lost in the fifties ...Tedd

Desert Valley auto parts. I will check them out.
I am in Santa Cruz Ca. I found the Turn assemblies in Iowa. Need to fit a radiator. May post in repair forum for advice on that issue. Robert

The other thing to remember is the engine lifts out instead of dropping down!

I've been hardcore VW for decades myself, people were surprised to see me cruising in an Olds! Still have several VWs too.
