OK, that's a fair comment. The open-top "4"s, for example, are inconsistent.
As I posted in Post #71 - there are inconsistencies w/ the OP VIN tag - as Joe pointed out, the "4"s; yet, all of the numeric & alpha characters are inconsistent. I conducted a review of many of the VIN tags issued by GM across several GM Divisions and GM plants (Chevrolet, Oldsmobile, Pontiac) for the years 1968 through 1978. My research indicates all GM issued VIN tags contain the exact same style FONT. The VIN tag FONT on your vehicle does not match any VIN tag issued by any GM Division for the years 1968 through 1978. Your VIN tag was not issued by any GM Division manufacturing plant based upon my research.
Your VIN tag is the first image in the below set of images. The remaining images are from VIN tags displayed for GM Division vehicles. I have provided only these as representative examples. I have no idea why your VIN is not an originally issued VIN by any GM Division; yet, IMO, it is not a VIN issued by any GM Division - it was fabricated.
