Ah ha ha ha ha ha, Pat - you sent it the wrong way... BTW we're currently sitting at -24 and overnight it's going to -35. I doubt you could send anything that'll phase me.

More specifically, the "U" in the fifth position of the VIN indicates a 455 4bbl dual exhaust motor with 250 HP net. The trans will be a TH400. The reason you can't find that VIN is because the general on-line VIN search sites only accept the 17-character VINs that were first used in the 1981 model year. Anything older requires a marque-specific VIN decoder. Alternately, you can get the GM Service VIN cards for 1972-later here.

Sorry for this mis-guided weather! FYI I have more where that came from -20 degrees this morning after four inches of snow yesterday.

Hey at least you guys were out on the roads the past week!
I have to sit in the garage in the 70 and make vroom vroom sounds. I am sure our pet bunny who's home is in the garage is saying to himself "yea and they lock ME in a cage"

What do you mean that your "VIN is not on file"? The fact that the on-line commercial VIN trackers choose not to deal with cars older than 1981 has nothing to do with your ability to register the car. They simply made a business decision not to waste their time on a small segment of the market.

Like Joe, I'm not sure what you mean by 'not on file'. My understanding of the next part of your question relates to Title?? If you have clear title to the vehicle you should have no problem registering it and getting tags. If you're not planning to use the car as a DD, you might want to check into the Insurance and registration costs of an 'Antique Vehicle' registrations. I don't know about Georgia, but my insurance is much lower, tag registration was a one time only thing, but I'm limited to driving the car only 5k miles a year to/from shows. I can get exemptions for long road trips as long as I notify the insurance company beforehand.

Used will be your only option, but any 1971-1976 GM B-body or C-body is an appropriate donor.
