motor swap v6 to small block 77 omega

Hi, I have a 1977 Omega f85. Has the standard v6 engine. Will a small block engine fit directly in or will i need new motor mounts? Thanks for any advice

Welcome.

Someone has to ask the question: A "small block" what? Each GM division had it's own "small block" and they are all different (yes, I'm aware that Pontiac didn't really have different big block/small block motors).

In your case, since the V6 is Buick-sourced, a Buick small block should bolt up to the existing motor mounts (Buick experts please confirm this). The Olds, Chevy, and Pontiac motors all used different frame and motor mounts in different locations. The Chevy even needs a different trans. Of course, accessory brackets and wiring are different for each division's motors also.

Thanks billmerbach and glad you brought that up Joe cause the small block i was going to use is a Chevy. I have a 49 Chevy Styleline i was going to swap the motor and transmission out of. Where would i look on the transmission to find out what type it is? I know its a hydromatic but haven't been able to find a part number. Also, the Omega being an X body, would parts from a 77 Nova be compatible? I may be wrong but I was under the impression GM reused/rebadged the Omegas back then

If your going that route, then treat as a 77 Nova for frame brackets and engine mounts. Then it's just a matter of adapting everything else.
