Midlife crisis adverted

Hi All

Just picked up a 1967 cutlass convertable.
So many ??? It is a 330ci engine, how do i know if it is a supreme?
I would love to convert the front brakes to disc, any links to supplys or
others who have a "how to" do the swap?
I live in SoCal LA area, any reputable places to take the olds.

Thanks All

Matt

Good question. I have a '67 Olds chassis service manual, and the VIN won't tell you. All it will tell you is if you have an F-85 or a Cutlass. If your car really is a Cutlass convertible, the first five characters of its VIN should be 33867. The 33800 series number was used for all Cutlasses that year.

If it's an F-85 convertible, the first five digits would be 33667. You probably have other indications, such as the word "Cutlass" appearing here and there, to tell you that it is a Cutlass.

I have a '67 Olds sales brochure, too, and the Supremes appear to have a "C/S" emblem on the rear sail panels (i.e., on the pillar right behind the rear windows) of the non-convertibles as well as on the center of the trailing edge of the trunk lid right above the trunk lock. It would also say "Cutlass Supreme" on a plaque on the dashboard above the radio right next to the switch for the convertible top. The standard Cutlass would have simply the Oldsmobile rocket logo on the trunk lid and no emblem at all on the sail panels, and it would just simply say "Cutlass" on the plaque above the radio.

In other words, I think that if you had a Cutlass Supreme, you would know it by now. While the emblem on the trunk lid could be missing for various reasons, the plaque above the radio is as plain as day. Unless, of course, a previous owner changed the dash or changed that plaque, it should still be there. But anything can happen.

Please post some pics of your car.

In 1967, 3667 is Cutlass convertible, and 3867 is Cutlass Supreme.
Do a search, disk brake conversions have been discussed many times.

As Rund correctly notes, in the 1967 model year, Supremes (and VCs) had VINs starting with 338xxx. Lesser Cutlii had 335xxx (for six cylinder cars) and 336xxx (for V8s). F-85s used 333xxx and 334xxx.

Disk brake conversion info is here:

I have a '67 Olds chassis manual in front of me as I write this. In the section on decoding the VIN on page 0-2, all the 1967 Series' are listed, the word Cutlass is used only with the 33800 series, and it's called "Cutlass F-85". Series 33300 is Standard F-85 with L-6 engine, 33400 is Standard F-85 with a V-8, 33500 is Deluxe F-85 with an L-6, and 33600 is Deluxe F-85 with V-8. All of these could have been had as a station wagon, but none are specifically called Vista Cruiser. For the top F-85 series, the wagons are referred to simply as "Custom Station Wagon - 2-seat extended" and "Custom Station Wagon - 3-seat extended."

I understand what you and others and what the VIN decoders say. I'm just telling you what the service manual says. I assume it would be a trustworthy source.

Welcome from Down Under. Post a few pics. 67 C/S verts are great cars. Is yours the High Comp 4 barrell 330ci V8?

Gotta be happy with that. 66s & 67s really do look good with a set of big wheels. What are they, 18" or 19"?
Definitely a Cutlass. Clear lower tail-lights and no CS badging and the CS didn't have baby seats in the back. Looks like a nice straight car. RH mirror too! Rare as rocking horse poo. Took me ages to find one (can't get by without them down here on the other side of the road). I'm a "gap-freak" when it comes to 67 front ends. Not too many I've seen for sale where everything lines up but yours is real close. Drop the front RH side of the bumper 1/4" and it's just about perfect. (Sorry for being a picky %$#@%).
Better than my old 67. I could not get the gaps and the alignment of grille, bumper & bezels 100% correct as it has been in a minor accident and it cheesed me off to the point where I sold it.
My ultimate Olds is a 67 442 convertible and one day before I die I will have one.
Thanks for perservering with the pic posting process and sharing you car around. Really enjoyed seeing it.
My old girl (now in Melbourne) ...

WOW that is a sharp Cutlass. Not much for bigger wheels but that is done right. Hope you enjoy your stay.
