Well, anyone can paint any engine blue, including the correct blue for a 455. If you have other evidence that it's a 455, the fact that it's blue is just supporting evidence.

What about Pontiac Blue or Corporate Blue or the blue they used on the 403?

Really....can you not discern the big F or Fa behind the water pump?

Maybe somebody painted it blue to match the car ...........or cause they like the color. Maybe it's 350 in disguise.

It could be FORD blue.

Or, it could be a Chevy Blue Flame Six...

Or, it could have been repainted.

Thanks for all responses..the reasoning behind my post is I have a engine that is supposely an 455 with 700r4 behind it...and in process of figuring out what I have for parts etc and rebuild to place in 72 cutlass. The engine I have has no apparent paint on it just value covers that do have raised oldsmobile script letterring.

The scrip valve covers were only used in the 1973-74 model years, but obviously they can be bolted on to any Olds motor. The block casting number is the only true proof of what the engine is, and the VIN derivative stamp on the block will tell you the model year of manufacture (of the block, anyway).

The 2004R is the BOP auto overdrive unit.
