Lower Radiator Hose Diameter 1070 Cutlass?
Lower Radiator Hose Diameter 1070 Cutlass?
I have a 1970 Cutlass with 350 Rocket and A/C. I bought a new lower rad hose and it didnt fit the rad end. My rad has 1 1/2 inch diameter and the hose has 1 3/4 diamer, I had to use a reducing rubber to make it fit. Now I just replaced the 350 Engine with a 455 from a 1970 Delta 88 with A/C. Using the same hose, now the pump end of the hose is too big. The hose I need is has inside diameter of 1 1/2 inch at rad and 1 3/4 at pump end. Can anyone shed any light on this as this is a standard hose for 455? Autozone shows 1 3/4 and 2 inches for this application! By the way, it is a 3 core raditor, and it could be original. Did they make water pumps for 455 with different diamer outlets? I am confused?
I know some water pumps have a different angle for the lower radiator hose to attach. I don't know enough about it to say if the hoses are all the same. You might try asking the parts store for a 455 hose to see what they come up with. John
Uh, no. Except for the 1964 330 motors, where the water pump inlet was on the driver's side, all 1965-90 Olds V8 water pumps have the inlet in exactly the same place. There are two sizes. I believe the 1971-up pumps use the larger inlet. Likely the one on the 350 was a later pump. You need Gates P/N 20603 lower hose, $10.61 from Rock Auto.
