Let me introduce myself.
Let me introduce myself.
Hello ALL. My name is John , I grew up in Connecticut but am now a Paratrooper out of Fort Bragg, NC. I have been on this forum for quite some time but have yet to really participate. (Every question that i have ever had is usually answered in somewhere between 8 and 47 other threads). Well I have a 72 Supreme with a small block in her. Her name is November, shes got more bark than bite. There is currently a big incher being operated on in the lab. Still needs a few operations but should make a full recovery from sugery along with an external breathing apperatus. I figured I have spent enough time creeping through this forum to finally introduce myself. Thanks for all the Info.
Wow, i didnt realize how many replies Ive gotten on here! Ahh... the name. I grew up in New England and fall was always my favorate time of year. Its one of those things thats not same any where else in the world. And yes, Oldsguy..although i have since changed the avatar, that may have had something to do with it or i may reserve it for somthing with a few less cubes. I got some of that funny gas laying around as well....but first things first, get it built. I will try to get more pics, i got one up but i dont have a camera right now to take any more and i am currently away. i have enjoyed watching other peoples progress on builds so i think i may purches a camera and return the favor for next project i dig into.
A little about her, Its a southern car I bought from a fellow in NC a few years ago and had it trailered to CT to stay with my parents and to work on it every now and then on leave. I was stationed in Germany at the time and had no idea i would end up in North Carolina shortly after ( i could have just bought her and put her in storage down there, now i have to trailer her back down, ooo welll). I bought it pretty plain but not original. looks to have been painted pretty close to the original color some years ago, took me a little while to even notice. Doesnt seem to have any major rust... SEEM. we all know what can happen when you start stripping paint but every thing is pretty solid and straight. The frame and everything under the car is in outstanding shape. Nothings rotting, all solid, no nasty undercoating. No bolts rusted together. when i re did the suspenstion everything came apart as it should, no torch or BFH.
Interor came in an ugly green, bench seats, auto on the column. Engine is a 72 small block with #6 heads, performer rpm intake and a demon 750 cfm. Ok, so after i got her i had about 2 weeks home to get some work done. The previous owner was telling me he thought it was over carbed because of a part throttle stumble. I thought ok, i have an edel 600 aying around, ill try that out, so i pull the demon off and the carb spacer and i see the gasket between the spacer and intake. it was the wrong one. it was hanging over the intake plenum by as much as half an inch in some spots, same with the the spacer that was sitting on top of it....wtf mate? just got rid of the spacer and put a new gasket in, one that fit...no more stumble, so i just left the carb on for now. Put some new plugs and wires on, ran great. Next took the crummy little electric fan that was on there and replaced with a bigger, flatter one(one the previous owner put on was nearly getting hit by the water pump pully bolts... yikes). Pulled the exhaust manifolds off, and put a set of coated flowtechs on. I cant beleive a header install turned into a whole weekend! they just wouldnt fit, even with the mini starter i had to use. i ended up getting stupid drunk and hammered a set of brand new coated headers...fml. but it eventually all slipped in and got some header wrap near the starter. Headers are dumping into 3inch duals with (summit brand?) mufflers. So shes running like a champ but handling like a boat...i say again: FML. I get some new springs and shocks, hotchkis 1.5 lower springs and some generic gas shocks. i figured while i was pulling that apart i could do my trailing arms. put in some adjustable upers with poly bushings (lakewood, maybe?) and some home made heim jointed adjustable lower peices (they are some knarly peices for an awesome price!). well put them all in and voila... it sits the same, if not taller. HAHA, the old springs were so bad it had lowered the car that much. It does ride better but i dont think the Hotchkis name on the springs was worth the price tag. next i moved to the interior, pulled the green carpet (it was in suprisingly great shape) and put in black, dyed the kicks and some of the lower dash. Pulled the crusty, cracking green plastic steering wheel and gave it up for one of those grant 3spoke wood grain ones, its a nice peice and looks great with all the wood grain panels in a cutlass. As of now thats it. and that was 2 years ago. theres so much more to get done but havent had time. Ive got piles of stuff for her, 3.42 posi and w27 cover to go on, mto1 rv cam and lifters, more interior (black roof liner, black dash, black door panels, that updated radio with the mp3 jack), super fat front and rear sway bars and a 455 that im not even going to talk about (ill do a thread on that when the time comes)

Don't make it difficult for them.

No. Not at all. Does one have to be an English teacher to ask that postings on forums like this be at least as readable as a 5th grader can make them?
Ever hear of "proofreading?" There is a "preview post" button down there at the bottom of the "create-a-message" page so you can correct errors before you post the message, and then there is an "edit" button down there on the lower right if you notice a typo or other problem after the message is posted.
This ain't rocket science. We're not asking for a PhD dissertation here. We're just asking for complete sentences, which are occasionally broken into paragraphs, and a reasonable likelihood of properly spelled everyday words.
I hope this is not too much to ask of supposedly literate adults.

Hey all I picked up this 1972 cutlass s model a year ago. Been out of the net for awhile. Its in the shop getting rebuilt from the ground up. Glad to be a member of this web site where all the questions I have can be answered, by people who know. Not those who think they know. I found the site while checking on how to read my vin#, and yall helped out alot. Thanks to all that posted on the vin# sites. I live in a little community in Tennessee. Thanks for accepting me into the group.

You fit right in with this group. We're all just a little crazy, some more then others. Have you met redgoat yet? You'll see what I mean sooner or later
Besides, we'll still be your friends. We just won't read what you write!

What reevans SHOULD do is start his own thread in the newbie forum.

Hey I have been called on the carpet about my spelling before and probably again. My parents for the first 18 years. I have been known to even open a dictionary. Not often enough though.
Jaunty the teacher comment was made in jest. You just reminded me of some of my long suffering teachers.

But there ought to be some minimal standard. The next time anyone writes something, before you post it, click on the "preview post" button (which means you can't use the "quick reply" box), and look at what you just wrote. Then say to yourself, "if I were someone else looking at this post, what would my reaction be?" If it's, "hmmm, interesting post," then go ahead and post it.
But if the reaction is, "I'd rather stick an icepick in my ear than plow through this," then go back and fix it.
Now that's not too high a standard, is it?
I got called out on another forum about the paragraph thing too-I never learned to type and didn't know how to make them!
So I read your entire post,I am used to that! Nice Olds! And you guys stop picking on his grammer,I am sure she is a nice lady!

Welcome John, I screw up on spelling all the time. I try to type faster than I really can and as a Canadian I have neighbours, our flag has colours and our soldiers, like you and yours, fight with honour.
John, Welcome aboard and thanks for your service as well. The way I see it if you are defending the rest of us you can misspell and not use grammar as often as you like... I read your post and got through it, although I did need to take a breath or 2
Thanks,
John

Thanks,
John
