Just wanted to say Hi
Just wanted to say Hi
I am new to the Oldsmobile Family. I am restoring a 1954 Olds Ninety-Eight. Very excited but no clue where to start.
Cant wait chrome is in good shape but interior well whats left of the interior is a nightmare.
Want to know how to tell what the original color were for this car and the original hubcaps if anyone can help me out (I have two different styles in the car). I have the VIN for the inside of the drivers door. Cant wait to show her off when she is running and looking to spec.

Well Hi to you to Rona! Welcome to CO. There's quite a few on the site who share your interest in the older cars. Hang in there. I'm not sure where to point you for the parts or history you need, but someone will have the manuals or info you need. I really like the wrap around windows that were so popular back then. Is your car a 2 door or 4 door?

The 54 is a major design change model from the earlier Oldsmobiles. Great looking cars. Someone on the site has the information your looking for hang in there. Until then post some pictures of your project and tell us how you found her.
A four door. I am hoping to have it up and running by next summer with most of the bodywork done by then. i would love to surprise my father who gave it to me. Kind of a gift back to him when completed.
The original Rocket Engine was working upto a few years ago..so I am hoping a little cleanup, new fluids and some TLC and that will be the easy part. A lot of the time will be on the interior which has been ravaged by good old Saskatchewan weather...

Where are you in SK? I've seen a number of these cars in boneyards around the Battlefords....
Welcome Rona,
Best advice I can give you at this stage of the game is to purchase a shop manual for your year car. A Fusick and USA Parts Supply catalog would be next, there are others but that will get you going for now. Get to know as much as you can about your car because chances are no one else in your area will know it at all.Just a few thoughts off the top of my for now....Tedd
PS. Love the 50's era cars.

I know corny but oh well I em what I em
No sweat. Keep on going at it. You planning to keep the car stock, or go resto mod? With the age of the car it may be hard to find parts and refinishing may be somewhat expensive. I'm waiting on a guy down in Regina area who has a 76 regency with a 455/400 runner with 92,000 miles (actually the complete car) who's trying to get rid of it. Its a long trip for me, but if it pans out the price is right for the driveline (400.00 if I pull it). Are you interested in something like that to retrofit into your car? It may be way more practical for you considering the distance and your available storage than for me. LMK and I'll give you the contact info.

Thanks
Okay so new issue to deal with. I started the clean up. All the old carpet out all the rotting grossness out... But then my dad realized all the keys are missing and I cant clean out the trunk compartment where I am pretty sure there is a hornets nest.
How do I get into the trunk without any sort of keys? Is there a release that I cant find.
I also learned that I have to replace the entire floor board ont he passenger front and Dad said the trunk needs to be replaced as well but I cant evaluzte wunitl I open it up.
I also am now looking for a Rocket engine apparently mine is no longer operational and not repairable...(Im not wiling to give up on it yet but I want to be prepared!!)

Take the glove box lock cylinder to a locksmith and have a key made - that should be the same as the trunk. Similarly, the ignition cylinder should be the same as the doors...
Good luck - great project too...sometimes it seems overwhelming - if so, walk away for a day - then dive back in - just don't walk away for too long.

Welcome, and hang in there on this task. You have taken on a large job.
It appears no one has ever answered your original questions regarding the color and hub caps?
The hub cap sown on the front seat is correct. As for color, it appears your car was originally a 2-tone blue. There should be a body data plate on the firewall. It will have paint color codes on it. Once the factory codes are determined, they may be deciphered to tell you what colors the car was when it rolled off the assembly line a mere 57 years ago!
