Just purchased 57 88 2 door sedan - texas

We just purchased a 57 rocket 88 2door sedan, someone installed an early 70s 455 with a new auto trans, not sure what we have because we are waiting for it to be delivered from Texas. This site has a lot of great information so I hope I can determine what we bought.

Welcome from another Texan. I moved your post to give you your own thread so as not to resurrect one from 2009.

Welcome to CO.

We are always interested in the fifties stuff. when you can post a few pictures of your car we all love pictures. A good shot of the block and head numbers would help ID the engine and if you can a picture of the pan area would help on the transmission.....Lost in the fifties.... Tedd

Welcome form the left coast

Should make a fun ride with the 455. Most likely has a Turbo 400 behind it. I did this same conversion in my 57. Let the good times roll. Post some pictures when you get it home

57 on the way

Sorry, Looks like I wasn't clear with my first post, the 57 is in Texas, I am in Oregon. But good news, the shippers pick it up Tuesday & it should be home by the week end. Thank you for helping us newbies

The 57 has arrived

We received the 57 a couple weeks ago. I have found some rust in the floor pans but other than that she looks to be pretty solid. After fixing a starting issue, I took it around the block. I am now in the process of removing the gear drive timing set & installing a double roller set (the noise was terrible) Oh what fun.

That noise comes from the Timing drivetrain cover, which acts almost like an eardrum, and not so much through the block. If you haven't started yet, I'd try insulating it from transmitting noise, first. There are space age materials for doing so. Replacing them with a chain is going a step backwards in time, since there is no preciser way to time your valvetrain.
I hope you tune your supension for that over-powered engine. Those '50s GMs roll like boats. I'd hate to see that gem get wrecked

Rear window treatment marked a high point of the designer's art.

In direct response to the above poster, there's no such thing as "Belgium". That was Napoleon's invention, Sir. Because, your property is clean and tidy like your vehicles, you can only be from Flanders (Vlaanderen)
