Jaybird's 67 Delta 88 Pics
Hi All: As a new member, I just wanted to take a minute and introduce myself to you.
You can call me: Jay, Jaybird, Nakedazajaybird or you can call me Ray, etc...
On January 26, 2010, I was able to purchase two 1967 Olds Delta 88's.
The parts car is a convertible that I got in Keswick, ON (near Toronto).
My main ride is originally from California. I picked it up in Windsor, ON.
It's been in Canada for about 10 years.
I'm the 3rd owner of the cars. They both have 425ci Super Rocket engines.
I update the pics on this site, when I have new ones.
Update: The parts car is now history.
Here's a link to My Main Ride... http://www.cardomain.com/ride/3838092
Needless to say, I'm very excited about owning classic Detroit muscle from the 60's!

Welcome Jaybird...I like what you have going one, It's a shame the vert is the parts car. But I can say I've seen more verts then hardtop coups on the road so you'll have something unique. It looks like a solid car to work with. I'd love to have the bucket seat/console combo in my 68 Delmont. Good luck with it.
Nice ride and this is what the 67 starfire would have, could have been.
Looking forward to seeing this ride in Bracebridge this year.
I think I know your parts car, live in Bradford and have many friends in the Keswick area.

I see a challenging restoration with the convertible, but it will be very nice once finished
Awesome car. It looks like you have a little bit of work to do, but then again where's the fun in buying a car requiring no work?
These cars are great for some summer cruisin'. I've yet to see another 67 delta custom in person, so I guess they're not so common.
Welcome to the club

As long as you're pulling apart that parts car, any chance you could "part" (ha ha) with the trunk lid script? I've been looking for one for my '67 Delta convertible for some time. The photo below shows the piece I'm looking for. It's circled in blue. Thanks.
Hey jaunty75: Take a look at the pictures. This car is very corroded. Also, look at the 2nd picture and you will see that the script is slightly corroded and one of the metal pins that holds it on the car is broken. I suppose you could always glue the one end down.

If you still want it, I'll try to take it off without breaking it. You can have free, just pay for postage.

Thank you.
Hey jaunty75: I got it off ok. It was fastened to this chrome trim piece. Does your car have this?

Jaybird, yes, it does. The photo I posted is of a Delta Custom, I believe, which had a different rear trim arrangement around the trunk, and the script piece was mounted directly to the lid. But on the convertible, the script is mounted on the trim piece as you show.
I have one of the original plates. I don't know what happened to the other one.

Because I don't have the clips that hold it on, or at least, I don't have enough of them. I didn't realize I didn't have them until I got the molding piece I got from you back home. To hold the molding on requires three clips, and I have only one (the one you see in the photo all the way to the left under the light.)
Jaybird noticed this, too, and thinks he has some from the same car as the script came from. If I can get two more, I'll put the molding on.
How have you been, by the way? Haven't seen you posting on here in a while. Any progress on your car?

Yes, the car still has both, and the glass is fine. The chrome is pitted here and there like yours.
Here's a photo of the car taken about two weeks ago, when the weather finally got warm enough to get the cars out. You can see the left side vent window chrome glinting in the sunlight.

Thanks to the clips sent by Jaybird, the right side trim piece just below the taillight that I purchased from bmwashington last summer is now installed. Here's photos of that side and the entire rear so you can enjoy the newfound symmetry as much as I do.
And, yes, before you ask, the right side taillight itself is slightly askew (easier to see in the first photo but more noticeable when you compare it to the left side). I'm not sure why this is, but I suspect the car was hit in the right rear at some point in its life, and the repair to this light was not perfect.

Thanks for the pics!
Post some close-up pics of your engine and interior.
I just helped Olds67 with a 1967 clock, bezel and bracket.
He wanted it shipped via surface mail, or as they say at the Post Office, 'On a slow boat to China.' They said the parts should arrive in Italy in 4 - 8 weeks.

Here's one of the interior I have right now. It was taken on the day I went to look at the car in late June of last year before I had bought it. You can't see everything, but you can see some things. I don't have any of the engine since I put the correct air cleaner on. I'll take some of both the engine and interior and post them.
Here's more photos. The first is of the engine compartment when I bought the car. The air cleaner is not correct and I think is a Chevy piece. At the top of the photo is a bungie cord the previous owner was using to hold the battery down.
The second two photos are what the engine looks like now, and the last four are of the interior. The previous owner took a spray can to the engine to paint it gold. It was kind of a sloppy job. I painted the valve covers the color they are now, and I got the air cleaner at the OCA show in Pennsylvania last summer. It was black, and I painted it red and got the air cleaner decal from Fusick. I also got the correct battery hold-down hardware from Fusick.
The interior really is nice (as is the top). I need floor mats. The car had no seat belts when I got it. Some previous owner actually snipped them at the anchor points in the rear and had removed the inboard front ones. The outboard front retractors were still there. I had to rent an impact wrench to get the seat belt bolts loose in the rear, but they came out. What's there now are some similar-vintage belts that I bought off eBay and that I think came from a Chevy. The front belts are just aftermarket ones I bought for $20 apiece so that the car would be legal. I can get originals all around for about $300, but I was hesitant to do that right away. I just want to drive the car.
The gauges are aftermarket of course. I like to have them. I also need a radio. The one in the car didn't work, and I want something with FM. I haven't figured out what to do yet.
In the background of the third photo of the interior is my other project car, a '73 Custom Cruiser. There's more about that elsewhere on this site.
What the car needs now is a complete repaint as it a faded yellow. That will come with time. Right now, I like to drive it on sunny days. We're having one right now, actually. It's a beautiful, warm, Easter Sunday here in Southeast Ohio. A day made for convertibles!
Yes, that's my beagle Jake who managed to get himself into the first picture of the interior.

Jaybird,
I need you again. I need the passenger side windshield wiper arm. I had been meaning for months to get around to this problem, so I took a look today.
On my car, the spring mechanism that holds the wiper arm tight to the windshield is broken and can't be fixed. At speeds above about 40 miles per hour, the wind causes the wiper to lift off of the windshield, so it's useless in the rain. Have you got one on that magic parts car? What do you want for it?

Wow, looking good. I bet it's a blast cruising down the road.
I am actually taking the same route as you. I fix minor things,
all while keeping it road worthy (plus I'm in college, so obviously I'm on tight budget
).
I just really enjoy driving my Delta!

I just got back from a nice spin on this most beautiful day, and the car really cruises nice. Smooth acceleration, that lovely GM power steering with the nice feel of the road, and just the hugeness of the car itself.
Nothing like quoting yourself.
There's even one more little thing I need. It's the little button that sticks out of the right side of the steering column that you push in on to activate the 4-way flashers. That piece is missing altogether on my car, and I just a have a screw screwed in there. It works, but it certainly doesn't do much for the original look! Any chance your parts car has this, too?

are used to waiting, so I'm not complaining.

I can only say I am happy that even if your are away.

jaunty75: I have both parts. Send me an e-mail and we'll talk price.
Your ride is lookin' good! While you were cruisin' around enjoying a nice spring day, my son was helping me replace some glass in my car. DennisG. sold me all his tinted glass on Friday.

The windshield of my main ride was cracked big time. The glass from my parts car had a large windshield wiper mark on it. I got two opinions about buffing the mark out and was told that if they took two hours to buff it out, the glass might be distorted.
I then decided to look for a new windshield. DennisG. had a tinted one from an A/C car. The price was good, so I bought all of the glass. I probably going back to see DennisG. again this week for more stuff.
While my son and I were looking at the vent windows and moulding, we decided that my main ride had good chrome on the right vent window but the donor car vent window moulding on the right was a little rusty. We debated about the best way to replace just the glass from the donor car with the good chrome from my main ride. To make a long story short, I agreed with my son and allowed him to smash the passenger vent window with a hammer and just replace the glass alone. This was nerve racking and exciting at the same time and best of all, it saved us lots of time.
