Jarhead from SC

Hey everyone, just picked up my first Oldsmobile about a week ago. She's a 1968 Oldsmobile Cutlass "S" Connvertible with a 455 BB and 350 Turbo Tranny. Very excited to get started on the restoration of her. I did drive her around for a bit but the tranny sprung a leak on me, going to have to do some investigating this weekend. Looks like it is coming from the right side as the right side exhaust was wet. Any clues would be great help. Im posting some pics hope they come out right.

Welcome to the forum and thanks for protecting us! Looks like you got a good starting point for a restoration.

As far as your transmission goes, could be lots of things: pan gasket, kick-down cable, trans dipstick tube, modulator gasket, front seal, rear seal, etc. Unfortunately, you'll have to crawl under there to get a better look.

Welcome to CO. Check your transmission coolant lines, they run up the passenger side and may have been damaged or crimped.

welcome cool car - if I remember correctly the 455 would have had an TH400 right?

Jeff, 455 would have had a T400 or T375. Except for the Hurst/Olds, 68 A-body did not come with 455s and most had 2-speed Jetaways behind their 350s. Our Marine's car has had a driveline swap. That said, a properly built T350 can survive behind all but the most radical 455.

Just at a glance I expect this car started life as a 350/Jetaway with bench seat and column shift. Like many 40-year-old A-bodies it's had some changes made, but unless he's going for a numbers restoration, these are no problem.

And if he wants to put everything back factory, we can help him with parts and advice- the least we can do in return for his service to the country.

Back to the transmission- the transmission has a vent tube that points toward the RH exhaust. Check to see if it's over full, as that will cause fluid to blow out the vent esp in hot weather.

Thank you, it is an honor to serve my country and I'm happy to join the community here. I took some pics of the tranny and my suspected leak places. Im going to start a new thread in the tranny section though as I feel it belongs there and not in the New Joins thread. And yes Im in the beaufort area.
