Inheriting a 1957 Olds 98
Hi everyone -
By way of introduction, I inherited my parents' 1957 Olds 98 Holiday Sedan about 20 years ago, and have kept it stored in the dry until retirement. It is now time to get it out and restore it. It was the first car I ever drove, and has many memories from years gone by.
I remember when it was ordered from Kirk Oldsmobile in Barnesville Ohio, and how Mom wanted a Blue car with a red stripe. Salesman said you couldn't have that combination - sapphire mist blue only came with a white stripe. She insisted, and he reluctantly ordered it with the red stripe. It did indeed come from the factory with the red stripe, and the body tag proves it with the red code 20. We never saw another '57 with that combo, so it may be unique.
My car needs a lot of TLC to get it back on the road, and the only change I plan to make is to add the J-2 option that Dad rejected in 1957 as a gas waster.
Thanks for allowing me to join your group - it should be informative and a lot of fun.

Welcome aboard. Love the 57's, if you get a chance please post a few pictures.
The J2 is a neat to look at set up but the reason they weren't very popular is because they were a pain to keep in tune and as you mentioned they usually gave poor mileage. The secondary front and rear carbs are vacuum actuated and usually only worked well at full throttle...Tedd

Welcome to Classic Olds. That will make a beautiful car when finished.I remember my mother had a '57 Holiday sedan Blue and white with the red stripe in chrome separating the two tone. Larry

Congrats on finally getting started on the restoration. Several 57 owners on this site. If you have questions just ask. By the way we need pictures of you ride or we go into withdrawal. If not received we steal you car and replace with a Yugo.

Inherited 1957 98 Holiday Sedan
OK, guys and gals, thanks to all who helped me figure out how to post a photo. Computers and I don't readily get along, so really appreciate the help.
Anyway, the old girl currently resides in a stall in my barn, and has been there for quite a few years, just waiting for the chance to take to the road again. She is covered in a thick layer of dust, and I can't even get to the sides and back for photos, so this one will have to do for the moment, until room is made for her in my shop.
