Hello. Just joined because I inherited a car that is supposed to be a 1939 f39/60 series 2 door sedan with factory sun roof car has no id plate so i cannot verify body number. Here are some pics.
first four pics are from 17 years ago when my uncle bought the car. The next pics are current. Can anyone verify that this is correct? And if anyone knows how many were made? Thanks in advance.
I think it's a Series 70 going by that sunroof. My books show no 1939 Series 60 cars got it, but there were 17 Series 70 2-door sedans built with it. So- you have one hell of a rare car and possibly the only one remaining. Check out National Antique Olds Club www.antiqueolds.org since they will be interested to know about your car.
And I would ditch that SBC quick. Some cars are not meant to be rodded. Has any frame modification been done, because the car's original serial # is on the left frame rail near the engine. If it's been sub-framed, well... there went your serial #.

Thanks for the reply. So from what I've heard the 70 series sedans had the door hinges inside for a clean look. Is there any other way to determine the difference?
The chassis mods were done before he got the car he didn't even know it was an Oldsmobile until after he bought it, it was listed on Autotrader as a Plymouth. Lol

If it had been a Plymouth, there'd-a been a posse with torches and pitchforks hunting down whoever stuck that tree-fitty Chivvy in there!😛
I honestly don't know what to recommend for this car. Short of finding another 39 Olds frame, 230 six and drivetrain, going back original is not practical. You still have the serial # issue which may or may not allow you to easily register it. Good luck with it. If it's one of the 17 Sunshine Turret Top 2-door sedans it's worth saving in some shape form or fashion.
Well, since the old ad you posted about the car showed the car was once in Austin, TX maybe you are close to me.
I just pulled front and rear seat frames out of a 37 Chevy 2 dr sedan that would probably work for a 39. They still have some of the padding and cloth so it's a good bet that they are usable.
Here's the pics. The adjustment bar and ratchet bracket are all good.
Free to you since you would have to make an all day trip to pick em up.
I also have the OEM column and steering sector along with a banjo steering wheel (plastic is completely rotted away but stainless ring and banjo's still good for restoration}
Not much else on the car is salvageable except maybe the rear window regulators that might work for you.

Patina is a cheap way to keep from painting a car. If it what the owner wants then it is his car. Personally I thing the green one above looks a lot better than patina.

I could use all of it I think what do you want for the column and regulators? And would you be willing to hold them for a couple of weeks it would be the 1st or 2nd before I could make the drive.
So after some more research an a closer inspection of the car, is is definitely a 1939 series 60 2 door sedan. Sunroof is NOT factory. It is an old very clean install using stock parts assuming from a 70 or 80. "Dealer installed option" maybe. No way to tell who did it.
Then the sky is your limit. Still a cool automobile. BTW, with the right motor mounts an Olds engine will set right in that subframe and get rid of that bellybutton that's in there now... and you can always sell the bellybutton!
Very cool. And how awesome that coming here and introducing yourself is getting you some needed, EXTREMELY hard to find parts for the price of some good pork / beef / chicken and the gas to get yourself there.
