Why, yes. What you have here is a Lansing (M) built 1983 (D) Hurst/Olds (9).

While technically a Cutlass Supreme 2 door body style (R47), certain features changes the VIN to K47. This is done through adding RPO Y78 (Calais) into the mix. All K47s were Calais, and all RWD Calais were 2-door through 1984. Calais got its own series in 1985 as a FWD, so the full size Cutlass brought back "Salon" to replace the "Calais" name in 1985 to try and avoid confusion.

What your VIN says:

1- U.S. build plant
G- General Motors
3- Oldsmobile
A- non-passive, manual seat belts
K - Cutlass Calais
47- 2-door Coupe, notchback special
9- Engine code, HignOutput 307 V8 gasoline (available only in the Hurst/Olds in 1983)
8- check digit for VIN verification
D- 1983 model year
M- Lansing, MI build plant
451951- plant sequential build number

Also, according to VINs close to yours, your car was built between 2/18/83 and 3/8/83. Likely a C&C assigned number in the lower 2000s. You would need to contact the hurst/olds registry 83-84hurstregistry.com (83-84hurstregistry.com) , or al mantei (al@mantei.com), or the Hurst/Olds club of America for more specific information on your car.

There should be a cowl tag under the hood just under the driver's wiper arm. Has "W40" on it. Up in the upper LH corner, there should be a number/letter (month/week number) showing scheduled build week. Such as 02C or 02D, or 03A I would bet.

9- Engine code, HignOutput 307 V8 gasoline (available only in the Hurst/Olds in 1983) My 1984 Hurst/Olds also had the same engine and code as the 1983. And the better 8.5 rear end, not the 7.5.

Yes. That is correct. But since his is an 83 VIN, I stayed within his model year, meaning no other Olds got that engine in 1983. I didn't mean to imply there were no more VIN 9 Olds engine applications. The only 9 engine for Cutlass in 1983 was available in the H/O only. Which also was the first time they used the MW9 (TH200-4R) transmission in the G-body, so they had to install an extension piece on the driver side frame to fit the 4R trans crossmember for 83 H/O cars. 84-88 the frames came with the extension piece already regardless of transmission.

If he had an 84 H/O, then the VIN 9 info above still applies. The RPO for 83 and 84 VIN 9 engine was LV2 (it's on the 84 SPID).

And the VIN 9 was also used in the 85, 86 and 87 442 and 84-87 VIN 9 all came with 8.5" GT4 (3.73) rear. But the engine code changed to LG8 in 85, although it was virtually part for part the same exact engine as the 84 engine, and the only 307 not to go roller cam in 1985. VIN 9 was also used in the big cars up through 1990 as well. Same engine as the roller cam 442s from 86 and 87.

Another difference from 83 was that air shocks were optional later in the model year, and then were standard on 84 H/O and 85-87 442.
