Howdy from a Newbie in SoCal
Finally decided to joining up after lurking for a period of time. I live in SoCal but from NorCal. Cars have always been a part of my life. I've got a few "Oldie but Goodies" and newer stuff that gives me just as much headaches. The biggest reason for me being here, is because I still have my first car, a 1967 Cutlass Supreme 2-door hardtop. Life seriously got in my way and for the past thirty years and this gorgeous piece of machinery has sat on body stands in my parents garage.
The project started out to just fix the engine, but it morphed into a nightmare. I somehow separated the frame from the body to address a twisted frame, (it was a lowrider) and began repairs/mods. The car has been on the homemade stands since 1982 and I'm itching to get back to fixing it. It doesn't have the original engine, it's a 350 V8 from a 1972 Monte Carlo (installed before I bought it). The interior is beautiful and I've already put tons of money into chrome and brass everywhere.
Well, now it's 2011 and I'm feeling nostalgic and want her back in my life. Hopefully soon, I'm gonna be able to at lest get her frame back onto her body and move her down here to SoCal for the rebuild. I'm gonna try to get pics, but travel makes it hard to do since it's in NorCal and I'm not. Thanks for the chance to say "Hello" and I hope I can learn something to make my world right. Have a great day everyone.

These guys( n gals) here are terrific. Alot of em and a HUGE amount of knowledge which ,from my experience ,they are only too happy to impart.
Hopefully the nightmare you mention will morph into more of a satisfying, learning challenge as you progress.
Don`t tell the wife about those extra little work bonuses or lottery wins , you may need a bit of it.
(I call it rational apportionment )mike
Welcome to CO
Time has a way of passing by and before you know it years turn into decades. Don't linger any longer get it on the road and enjoy it. Us old farts understand this better then most. Its hard to believe but true
Looking forward to it all.
Thanks everyone. I hope to learn a lot on this board, hopefully add to the knowledge base too. For now, I'm hunting and gathering info for the actions in the future. I've been told money helps, so I need to find some of that too. Have fun and I welcome all communication and or advice.
Nice Digs
Much appreciated, Ranzan. I noticed on your pages you link, that you have two 67's. I checked out your Photobucket pics and was very impressed with your storage/work area. I noticed you had bucket seats, are they the version that swivels? Did you have the car stored outside very long without windows before you started working on her again? What method did you use to remove the frame and elevate the body? Were there special tools/lifts you used? I bet the rust was a huge problem and very expensive to repair. Which company did you find to provide the best replacement panels for the damaged areas? When you began welding everything, what method did you find the best results came from. And finally, what is "por 15"? I'm looking forward to getting started, but I gotta find a job that will pay the bills (this all sounds expensive). Here in California, there's slim pickings and I've got some physical disabilities just like you mentioned earlier in your thread. It can be difficult to work hurt. I can't wait to learn and hear more from people on this forum. I sure was lucky to find it.
Hello neighbor, I'm not too far away from you in Santa Clarita. I have a '66 that I'm slowly getting together. Best friend of mine has a '65 that we take out to cruises and such to help with my cruising fix until I get my '66 going. We are going to the Olds national meet this year which is up in Reno. Here's the '65 IMG_4084.jpg and mine when I got it for free. ProjectOlds1-1.jpg

Welcome, I am in Southern Calif, Moreno Valley. I will be at the Nationals with my 1970 442 w-30 convt. It was a shelf in my garage for thirty years and is in Colorado getting a face lift. I have always been into the 70s because my frist car was a 1971 442. I am about 100 miles from you.

Classic... I only have 1 car now the holiday coupe was to far rotted to save
I`m not sure how long the car was tarped outside by the previous owner but it has been in my garage for the last 5 years that I have owned it
67 seats are non swivel I believe those seats started in 73
I lifed the body off the frame by myself with cinder blocks and 4x4s and 2 jacks alternating from front to back till it was high enough to remove the frame
my car is actually in not to bad of shape the only new panels are the front floors and rear filler panel . mostly just surface rust on it
as far as welding... well I hadn`t done any since high school so it was practice practice practice
did alot of reading and test welds before really doing anything on the car
Por 15 is a rust inhibiting paint product.... some guys don`t like it I swear by the stuff easy to work with and tough as nails
as far as costs.... the only thing I farmed out so far is the blasting of parts everything else I have done..... its called the no money budget build

Hi,and welcome.I was actually IN Ventura the day you started this thread!
Unfortunately,I am now in the frozen east. There are some real good Olds folks in the area out there. If you get to Oxnard, check out the small auto museum on the south end of town, there were some real nice late 60s,early 70s Oldsmobiles therte last time I went.Exhibits change, but it is worth checking out. ---bil

Thanks for the head's up about the Reno gathering. And to Ranzan, I appreciate the info about all you did. Any chance ther's more pictures of the home-made rotisserie? That looks like a great thing to have.
Hey Ranzan,
Hadn't priced them or steel lately. But that's great advice. I haven't seen any around here lately and wasn't sure of the economics of it all. Appreciate the info, you're the bomb.
