Hot rod olds stuff

Good morning.
Thank you for the opportunity to post on this forum. Our first Olds 98 Holiday showed up when Mom and Dad flew back to Lansing Michigan and picked it up at the plant in 1953 and drove back home to the San Francisco peninsula. The second one was purchased at Rector Cadillac Oldsmobile in Burlingame CA in 1960; a white Super 88 that I was luck enough to drive through high school. Great car!!!!!!!!!!!
Anyway, as my handle indicates, I'm a old hot rodder from the 60's, and love Olds drive lines in early Fords. Always wanted a '65 442, but that has worked out (yet!).
I pulled a '32 3 window coupe out of mothballs that ran an Olds at Half Moon Bay and Fremont back in the late 50's and early 60's. It beat Mickey Thompson at Half Moon Bay in 62 running one of his 215 Olds Aluminum jobs.
When I purchased the car, it had been owned since 65 by a (then) young man who put an olds engine and rear end in the car. I'm trying to figure out the year of the rear end. Casting number on the pumpkin is 501826 and the date is J309 (October 30, 1949???). Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome! Post up some pics, especially the olds ones when you get a chance.
Sounds like you may have some cool stories to share as well.

Welcome aboard,If you don't get a answer here drop on down to the Vintage forum. There are a couple members there that have Hollanders and they should be able to look up those numbers for you. Is it a peg leg? I think all the early Old's were open rear ends up till 57 I believe .

By the way a hot rod powered by a Old's power plant has been on my bucket list for a long awhile, love to see some pictures... Lost in the fifties .... Tedd

For some reason , GM casting numbers were generally one number from the actual number of the part .
The 1950 Olds Chassis Parts Book , under group #5.505 Carrier , Differential .
The number 501825 is listed for all 1939 thru 1947 models .
I would think that casting date would be Oct. 30th , 1939.

Thank you very much. Begs the question: Why would anyone in 1964 put a pre-50 Olds rear end in a dragster? Plot thickens.

Possibly because of the width?
