Hi everyone

Well I finally got the courage to say hellow and show my Olds. Its been patiently waiting for over 20 years for me to bring it back to life. I bought it in 1983 it was my first car. 1969 442 I know another 69 but you know the strange thing is in 1983 they weren't that popular everybody wanted 71 or 72 but anyway back to the 69 it is a true 442 vin# 344879m244169 I know it was built in Lansing it is missing the origanal motor and trans it had a junkyard 350/350 in it when I got it. It is a 4 speed car I guess it was to much trouble for them keep the 4 speed. Hopefully everybody won't be to hard on me for neglecting it for so long suprisingly it has not got as bad as I thought it would. I've checked the frame the best I can for the body still being on it and it seems to be ok now for my big ? I don't have any documentation that it is a true w30 I can't find a build sheet or broadcast card and the only place left is on top the gas tank but I dought it. I know its missing the things that really make it a w30 but what do you guys think is it real. I know its going to take allot of work but thats ok it deserves it.

Welcome

Welcome aboard

The 344879M means it's a Lansing built 69 hardtop 442. You don't need any more proof than the vin.

The W30 thing is a whole different issue. Does it have A/C? Front drum brakes? What the ratio of the rear end? Does it have 68 front bumper brackets?

Give us some more detailed pics please

Welcome! At least you've kept it from becoming junk!

There are a number of indicators that of things that came with a '69 W30. If the indicators are there and the fact that you've had it since '83 means it *probably* is a W30. But unfortunately, "probably" is as close as you're going to get as there is no way to prove it.
You're right, it was no big deal in '83, so that increases the chances.
But to me? Probably is close enough that I'd want to put it back that way. Probably beats an all-out clone.

While we're on the subject. I am no expert, but the only friend I have who has a real W-30 swears the front bumper bracket braces are from a 68. Do you agree?

Thanks Jamesbo for the reply

No ac front drums as near as I can tell the gears are 3.91 about 4 revs of the yolk to 1 of the tire I took some pics of the passenger side bracket I don't know the diff between 68 an 69 tell me what other kind of pics you want to see and i'll do the best I can. as far as the gears go back in the day I had to swap the rear out so I could drive it on the highway but I put it back in when I quit driving it.

I think the braces that are '68 are the front fender braces at the front bottom edge of the fender to the rad cradle under the battery and the same spot over there (right) 'imagine pic'...
