Help identifying power steering pump +coupler

Hi ClassicOlds. In need of some help. My 65 f85 seems to be a Frankenstein of parts. When I bought the car the power steering coupler was broken. Seller “had the piece to fix it” new steering coupler number 202 definitely isn’t the right part. Steering column matches the Old part with one large stud and one small one. The splined shaft is also bigger on the old one. Casting on the pump says 691676 which seems to pop up on a lot of GM pumps on other forums. (Might Be out of a 69 like the 455). Any idea on this coupler and steering system? Any help appreciated.

Its all about the spline count. That is what matters. There are two different counts that I know of on these common steering shafts. The new lares joint you have all look visually different than original equipment and won't have the ground wire for the horn, so you'll need that too. As long as the splines add up, you're good.

So more splines might equal larger shaft, the steering box shaft in the car also has a flat spot which keyed to the coupler. It did have the horn ground wire. Here is a picture of the shaft as well. It’s clearly matched with the coupler with a large pin and a smaller pin.

Believe there is a 30 spline and a 36 spline. Perhaps corresponding to a 3/4" and 13/16" diameter shafts. Have an ancient car craft/hot rod article clipped out from the mag describing it in more detail. Have a box of rag joints - if you simply needed one to move the car around I would send one for shipping. Too dried out though to be safe for regular use.

I really appreciate the offer. The car doesn’t need to move right now. I’m going to repair the rag joint for now.
