Hello from Seattle, Washington

Hello all,

My father just handed down a 1963 Olsmobile F85 convertible, what a guy! It's a great old car, but even better, it was my Dad's. The car recently traveled from North Carolina to Washington state in the cozy, and costly, confines of an enclosed carrier and we are getting her settled into the new home.

I'm new to Oldsmobile but not to older cars so I'm not a total newbie but have not "played" with older cars in a long time so I'll need help. After reading a bit of the blog (pictures, pictures) I have hopefully attached a few to this post but maybe only one loaded.

It has the 215 with a four barrel carb, single exhaust and is the high compression (10.25:1?) engine.

It's got problems... Difficult starting, runs rich, leaking oil (likely from the rear main seal) but overall it's in great shape and will be a blast to drive around here in the summer.

Thanks in advance for the help I'm sure I'll receieve here.

Best regards.

Welcome to the site, looks and sounds like a sweet ride. Most importantly you know the history. I would go through its tune and check your valve cover and pan gaskets for the oil leak.

That's a great car to receive from your dad! That's how I got mine, too. Welcome to this site...the best Oldsmobile site going! We look forward to seeing more pics, as well as seeing your car at shows, in the near future!

Welcome! Sharp car and sharp color. Great spot to snap a picture, on the turnout on the way to west seattle with downtown in the background.

Now, summertime in Seattle - when does that happen? Oh yeah, July 5th at the earliest...

Welcome and congratulations on the gift from Dad. X2 on Eric's idea to check Valve covers and pan gaskets for the oil leak. You may also want to check the oil sender switch.I seem to recall that in the 60's we replaced several on GM cars, and solved oil leaks! Larry
