Hello from ChicagoLand

I'm looking forward to talking to everyone and maybe learning a thing or two. Cars have been a hobby of mine since 1974. I've recently bought a 1959 Super 88.

Excuse the poor quality of my pic. as it does not do the car justice.

Welcome : Really nice find !

Love the Super 88 Rocket / Color Combo / Interior quality ..
This is an awesome community with timely feedback on all types of Oldsmobile's

Thanks for the feedback on checking over @ Volo on another thread . There have been several members that have shown interest .

And , you had a question on running W.W. radials on your full sized classic . The manufacturer that gets the most amount of praise repeatedly on the HAMB forum is Diamondback . From a handling , smoothness , comfort and traction standpoint , huge improvement .
On the contrary side , purists will act as well......... purists , if you ever wander into the show field .. I'm sure if you went to the Old's Nat's in Wisconsin 3 weeks ago , you could have found some 50's Old's both ways , and could have talked with the owners . If you can wait until end of Nov . the MCACN show in Chicago , there you will find some of the best car owners in the country . Keep asking the guys with the cars .. Buy what makes you happy ..
Again .. enjoy your car - Beautiful ride .. jimi2 .

Thanks for the kind words about my New- Old car

One of my car memories from the 70's was the the improvement Radials were over Bias tires. Above all I bought my car to drive it. it's nice to be able to have that Bias/Radial hybrid as an option.

Awesome looking car!
Enjoy her and add 10 minutes to fill up time at the petrol stations!
And just an add to the Radial v Bias ply. I did not enjoy driving mine on bias ply tyres so I changed it to Radials ( 224 75 x 14) I see yours is an 88, mine is a factory AC 98 so the tyre sizes were different to each other. ( 9.0x14 vs 9.5x14)
The biggest radial I could get was the 225 x 75 x 14 and the rolling diameter is vastly different.
It lowered the car by 30mm and changed the gear ratio dramatically, but it drove beautifully!
I ended up getting 15 x8 inch wire wheels and fitted 225 x 75 x15. the rolling diameter is slightly smaller but a lot closer. 235 x 75 x 15 would be the same as the 9.5 x 14's the car came with but I believe yours were slightly smaller so the 225's would probably be the same.

Scott

Thank you Scott. I agree on the Radial tires. I'm doing my best to keep this one original, however I bought it to drive & enjoy not to win contests or as a Museum exhibit.

Love your 59, you don't see many of these on the road or at shows.

As far as the radials/ bias tire thing I have gone to the radials full time also because of the difference of ride the radials give. It's not unusual for the wife and I to go on trips of 3000 + miles and radials don't wander and follow groves like the bias tires. It's a lot less tiresome on the driver at days end, you will like them..... Tedd

'59 Rocket,if you are intending to show it and are worried about getting docked for the tires, maybe you could find 4 More wheels to mount radials, and run them until you were going to a show. X2 on the much improved ride and handling. Georgious car, welcome and enjoy. Larry

Had a local shop Powder Coat the wheels and put on Coker 235/75R-14 tires. I like the "beefier" look w.o over doing it.

Also went to duel exhaust with Flowmaster 50. Nice throaty rumble, just enough.
