Hello All

I am new to this forum and to owning an Oldsmobile. Last fall I purchased a 1972 Cutlass "s". It spent its entire life in Connecticut where I found it.

I will try and post pictures.

I'm looking for a few things right off the bat. I would like a correct number quadrajet carb for the 72, number 7042250, a stock 4bbl Air Cleaner, a set of 72 or 73(with the script "oldsmobile") valve covers.

Other than that, i don't need a whole lot, just information about the car.

Thanks,
John

Welcome!
You're off to a great start here with big beautiful pics of a great looking Oldsmobile! Glad to see a young guy like yourself getting involved and asking question. Heck, at your age, you're excused from any question being dumb!

This may sound hard to believe, but we all started with knowing nothing.
We know it all now, but we just can't remember it............

Nice. Black and saddle go well together, and the car isn't "busy". Clean and simple. The Supreme grilles actually look pretty good in there.

First off- what carb is on there now, because that looks like an aftermarket aluminum intake and some of those are not set up for spread-bore carbs like a QuadraJet (secondary openings bigger than primary openings). If the intake will accept it, you're good to go. If it's set up for square-bore carbs like an Edelbrock or Holley (all throttle bores the same size), you will have to either use an adapter or change the intake to use a QuadraJet.

The aircleaner should be no trouble to find. If you have an HEI distributor, you'll need to find an aircleaner with the offset to clear it. The valve covers you want were used in 1973-74 on 350 and 455 engines.

Ask away. We'll answer best as we can.
