Greetings from AZ.

This is absolutely the place where myself and my 1967 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme Holiday Coupe 442 , need to get acquainted.
The 442 has had one owner previous to me. I have the bill of sale , window sticker , protect-o-plate, loan documents , and title directly to the first owner. Sold @ Bradley Oldsmobile , Tulsa OK, on 2-6-1967 by one Hubert Lester , for a grand total of 4186.48. A rather Knightly sum of money in those days. Options from the 2831.00 + 93.35 in freight , added up to 1262.31.
L78,M40,N40,J50Y60,U63N63,N95,D55,G80A01,C60,A39,C 08, are the options.
So it is a BlackTop/Aquamarine K2 , 442 Coupe. Auto, Air, P.S., P.B., Anti-Spin, Radio, W.W.Tires, Simulated Wire Wheels, you get the picture.
There is a whole story about finding this car and the collector / dealer from Salina KS , that allowed me to buy it from him. Numbers as follows.
Block frt. and center : 390925E
Behind Distributor : 199 CFD
R.F. Head Machined Surface : V203957G
Carb Tag : 7027156 K6 RH
Water Pump : 134301 343
Transmission : 00-67 2936
I will post pictures as they become available. I live in AZ , and the car is in KS. I have never personally touched the car yet. The hands that the car is in, belong to a custom shop in KS. Build time should be 4 months , and this forum will be integral to selecting many of my Fusick purchases.
I've lurked through half a dozen build threads to believe that they are my best parts source. Well , that is me , look forward to meeting many fine folks here , and pictures will begin appearing in the next 14 days...
Thanks, Jim.

Wow, Jim, that sounds like a neat car! Are you going to have it restored to stock or do you have any modifications or customizing you are going to do? How many miles are on the car? It's got lots of neat options - certainly "loaded" for that day and age! I'm looking forward to seeing your pictures!

Let the information flow !

Well forum followers , I just created an " album " , in the album section.
5 pictures that sold me on this 1 owner car. I've selected a custom shop in Kansas to make my vision of this a reality . The goal for me is to make it look like a 10,000 mile car ( It has 70,000 on it ) . Both of the observers that have informed me , say that the interior is " Too Nice to Restore . " The only question I have is that I would like a tighter fit on drivers side bucket. Currently the car is returning from a media blaster in K.C. It will be a frame on complete restore of ALL paint , engine compartment , and underside.
What you will find out about me is that I sold my first vehicle @ Barrett-Jackson this year. That process was a 5 page thread on the Mercury Cougar Forum. I had a positive experience. Spent 12 of 14 days there.
I also used to assist on a C/S 442 from Holiday Olds in Minneapolis in 1967 - 1970. In 1970 , literally , my favorite car fell into my best driver friends hands. We spent the spring of 1970 street racing the Blk/Blk 1966 W-30 442 called the Conquistador II . Built by George Fluery + ?Greg Mann , driven by Bob Tangen. That car terrorized Minnesota Dragways , and Twin City Dragways. I remember it as a 11.35 - 11.45 4 speed car that was totally bullet proof. Under Oldsmobile race car pictures it appears on page 8 permalink 294. The ONLY competition for that 442 was a trio of 427 lightweight Fairlane's , 2 of the 3 driven by Dick Charbonneau . Lots of factory go fast , and endlessly able to run 11.15's at will. I will ALWAYS love 442's. Looking forward to feedback .
Thanks , Jim

Jim, welcome aboard.
Looked at your album and WOW!! That car has been kept really well. Looks like a replacement DS fender but overall it looks amazing! Is that 'survivor' paint?

Your list of options
L78 - 442 Performance Package
M40 - TH400 Transmission
N40 - Steering, Roto Matic; power
J50 - Brakes - Pedal Ease, Power
Y60 - Lamps and mirror convenience package
U63 - Radio, deluxe: pushbutton
N63 - 7.75X14 white line nylon cord tires
N95 - Wheel discs; simulated wire 14"
D55 - Floor mounted trans shift console
G80 - Anti spin rear axle
A01 - Tinted glass (all windows)
C60 - Air conditioning
A39 - Seatbelts; Deluxe, front and rear
C08 - Rooftop covering (vinyl) includes trim moldings B80

From the look of the pics your VIN should start out like this: 338177(M?)XXXXXX or 336177(M?)XXXXXX.

The Head stamping V203957G is proper for a 1967 400CID 442. The engine should be bronze in color.

Transmission : 00-67 2936?? I think you've got them backwards a bit. Should be 67-OG - 2396?. The middle is not numbers, it's letters. OG was the M40 (AT) code used with the 400CID

Block: 390925E This is a 400CID block for 66/67 442's and is considered VERY rare. Congratulations!

Schniekees , I have 5 wire wheel covers.

It might take me 4 months to restore my hub caps. 2 good , 1 average , 2 below average. I will start with dis assembly and cleaning. Yes Allen , survivor
paint. Some of the top side was just falling off. As all of the stainless and trim was being removed , beginnings of rust were discovered. 46 years is a LONG time ! Car is now entirely media blasted. No pictures yet.
As far as we can tell , this is an entire " born with " farm fresh find.
I have the the original bill of sale from 2-6-1967. Olds, Model 67-3817 , new.
VIN # 338177M162766. Sold to Mr. or Mrs. F.L. Parks. Window sticker to match , old and yellow but very intact. Title in Ruby L Parks name from Kansas , with letter from testamentary of probate court and sale in 2007.
My title is still in her name. Yikes , and eerily complete.
Randy , great question , what do you do with a car like this ????? My consensus, make it a preservation. An old time big dollar collector once told me in the 80's " Jim , a restored car is WORTH the MOST , the DAY you finish it ... An original is worth more EVERY day you own it. This next 4-6 months will be fun. My next pictures will be of the original paperwork, and soon there will build progress. Man those bolts are tiny on the back of my wheel covers. I hope those Kansas corrosive conditions let everything break loose. Beside wanting my drivers side bucket to look as good as the
passenger side. I will be soliciting opinions. One of the vendors I WILL NOT be utilizing is Coker Tire. This car will have Diamondback Classic's.
They will build me W/S - White Stripe = O.E. , or Red Stripe , or Gold Stripe , or Blue Stripe,,,,, my favorite . Then , it is up to SEM to match the color.
I think I want a little warmer / deeper Aquamarine to set off bronze and O.E. look underhood... I digress. Thanks for any and all input... Jim

Ziff great question....... Chances are 0 - 25 % that I will be placing the car in the Barrett- Jackson - Scottsdale 2014 sale. The brain damage to put yourself into the B-J Box is staggering. Of the 5 B-J Sales , Scottsdale is the only one I would ever use. The 5'th sale this year is Hot August Nights in Reno , Palm Beach starts @ 11:00am tomorrow on SPEED Channel.
There are at least 110 different variables into every day of each sale. You rarely SEE your Buyer and SPOTTER until your car is within 75 feet of the Big Tent. EXAMPLE , Lot # 841 , on Thursday night of Scottsdale 2013 , was a 1967 Oldsmobile Custom 442 , That I REALLY would have liked to own. I projected the car @ 40- 45 K. Built by Mothers WAX , open checkbook , period correct W-30 , SPOILER ALERT : MATCHING NUMBERS , exactly the way any of us would want to own it..... SOLD @ 29,000 = 31,900 cost to new buyer, owner nets 26,800. Plus the owner spent 5-800 , on entry , detail if Mothers did NOT do it for free ( mine was 450.00 ) and shipping. B-J , made 5100 + entry for 4 min. of work. THE reason this car was snubbed IMHO was that is was the 6th car from the end on a drunk Thursday Night.... And that was just the tip of the iceberg.
I met hundreds of super nice car people , would not have changed ANYTHING on my LOT # 64 , 1968 Mercury Custom Trans- AM Dan Gurney Replicar , and EVERYBODY should consider driving their pride and joy up on stage..... I really DO like my 67 442, NEVER would have considered Wire Wheel Covers , and A/C , in Aquamarine , 1 owner born with for better or worse , being preserved by a shop that I have never steeped foot in , and I will not see until it comes off the transporter this fall. I DO have faith in a lot of people based on knowing their finest friendships , and word of mouth.
This forum will be doing a bunch of laughing AND crying with me as I experience this build. Let the GAMES continue , thanks, JIM

Real documents on my ALBUM page

Hello All... I just posted what I believe are complete ORIGINAL pieces of paper
on my 1967 OLDS CUTLASS 442.
PLEASE advise me if any of this appears to be unusual or incorrect.
I'm only NOW starting to replace any of the BORN WITH pieces on the car.
I will start a major build thread , ASAP.
Currently I have zero images from it coming back from the media and de rust
process...
If any of you have experience with a quick and effective way to download images , I would be most appreciative,, THX , Jim

Awesome color combo for a mid-'60s adult musclecar! Great looking project!! The only thing that strikes me as odd is the air cleaner. The unsilenced automatic transmission air cleaner is usually seen on cars built late in the model year, where as your car was built late-Oct./early-Nov. '66.

any thoughts?

Jimi, your documents are amazing! The only one I don't think is relevant is the one appointing executor of the estate. Other than that they all reference what you would hope for. The only things I don't see and maybe you just didn't post them in your images? The Owners Manual, Service booklet, protecto plate (It will be a metal piece inside the warranty booklet) If you have all that? Your Cutlass Supreme has very credible provenance.

I know this is stretching, but it looks like most of the docs for this car were kept intact. If you have the cars maintenance history records, you hit a home run! This is what a lot of us only dream of finding.

Just an FYI, it would be super cool if the built sheet was found in the car. Hope you told the people doing the bodywork that any documents they find (either on top of gas tank or inside the car) were to be kept intact and given to you.

I wish I had an excuse......

Greetings again from Phoenix. It appears that I will NOT be posting pic's and
build progress on my 67 442. The builder from Salina KS is the only person less capable of pictures than me. Truly inexcusable .
I will not detail how I got to this point , but will simply say that my willingness to say yes , and dedication to something this documented has taken me to extreme ( for me ) investment levels. The car is now in the paint booth for 3 rd primer coat , and final prep before paint. After primer , the body comes off the frame. My decision today was to get a complete
back to O.E. engine rebuild , complete w/dyno sheet and bench break in.
There are just under 300 hours in the build time so far , and another 300 +
for final paint and assembly. The car should be done by mid September. There will not be a crusty nut , bolt , or non rebuilt mechanical system on the car. So much for the preservation restoration. Cost has doubled from my initial commitment.
I do not get pictures until it is finished . At this point , I only have 3 questions. First . In my previous life I had an overabundance of bad experience with Coker , and I refuse to run bias ply tires . Hence , I'm planning to run Diamondback Classics . They will be based on P 225/70r x14 B.F.G. Radial T.A. My question . Window Sticker says F-70 x14 White Stripe tires . Diamondback will build me White Stripe , Red Stripe , Gold Stripe , or Blue Stripe. Car is Aquamarine Blue , I'm thinking Blue Stripe's would look really cool ! opinions ?
Second , I have 5 Wire Wheel Covers . 4 came with car , 1 purchased off Ebay. 2 of the 4 originals have curb rash on outer ring . I have been thinking of running dog dish O.E. wheel covers ? Simple , clean , and light.
Those wires are heavy , and I would have to restore them ??? Thoughts ?
Third , I want to raise the rear 2 inches to improve stance . I was thinking of Moog Cargo Coils ? Or , does that take too much away from O.E ??
I really want to get the stance slightly higher in rear . Having the engine
rebuilt buys me 2 weeks to decide on this .
And that is the status of my 442 . As I have now proceeded beyond where I thought I wanted to be on this car , this may now be something
that is beyond driver status. That disappoints me. But it will be very cool to see results . .. I look forward to sharing pictures mid to late August.
I value every ones opinion on any of the above. Thx . Jimi
