hi all......glad to be here. ive had a few oldsmobiles in the past. ive loved and lost a couple of lovely beauties a few years ago. had to sell them to keep the family functioning. nothing compares to the gut-wrenching feeling of letting go of the car that is "not for sale". she was a 1969 olds cutlass "s" 2 door hardtop, buckets, center console, air conditioning. 350 auto. ran GREAT. ALL ORIGINAL straight and solid from texas. original everything, paint, interior, motor, rims, everything but the dual flowmaster exhaust, beautiful music to my ears... absolutely no rust, just a couple faded paint "patina". straight and shiney chrome too. this was my driver in the best sense of the word. the original A/C still blew cold. AZTEC GOLD in and out. ran awesomely. as you can tell, i loved this car and miss her so..... the devastating story continues......with the hardtop, a convertible had to go as well.....69 cutlass convertible. again, in original paint and complete. burgandy in and out . white top. not quite as solid as the HT but it was unmolested. bucket seats, center console. 350 auto. this was going to be restored but someone took her away. the only consolation is these went to a good home and i still have the number of the guy who ripped them from my grasp...maybe someday we will be reunited????? i was able to keep a body off restoration in progress, 1969 cutlass "S" convertible. bucket seats, 350 with original 4 speed muncie. frame and chassis all rebuilt and painted. the "shell" is in primer, motor rebuilt, all in dry storage garage, patientally waiting........ both of the convertibles were a BARN FIND. brother and sister. i kept the brother......
well, time went by, somewhat financially back on my feet things are better.....one day last summer, i was looking for a pickup truck, stopped at a house where the owner had a NEW TRUCK and his old one(1998) off to the side of the driveway, so i stopped to see if he would sell the truck, and he would....this was an older gentleman and we got to talking. his wife had passed the previous year, he was selling his place and getting rid of his toys, to move to his cabin in northern michigan. i asked what toys he was going to sell. he opened his barn and to my delight, in front of me sat 2 old cars. the front one was a 51 ford sedan, an older restoration, but very nice. this one didnt hold my attention for very long. in the back corner, dark and dusty, "stuff" piled on top, sat a wonderful speciman of years gone by, a 1953 oldsmobile, SUPER 88, 2 door hardtop. ALL ORIGINAL unmolested car from georgia. straight and rust free with again original paint with "patina". i was happier than anyone has ever been. the 303 v8 rocket engine and 4 speed hydromatic transmission were out of car.motor on an engine stand in a side room of the barn. shortblock redone. .030 over pistons, new cam all wrapped in a plastic bag to keep it fresh. everything else there to finish the rebuild except for the 4 bbl carb. complete original all there barn find once again. what are the odds?????? needless to say, i left the truck and bought the 53, went home got the carhauler from a buddy came back loaded it up and to my new home it went......im finishing the motor, reinstalling and i will be driving this as is. well, i hope everyone enjoyed my story. its not just a "story" EVERYTHING is TRUE. i am glad to be on this site with all you OLDS- GUYS. i will be signing off cause ive been on here way too long. i wont be ending this story, i will just be taking a break for now, i will be back soon. to anyone who is actually still reading this, thanks and looking foreword to chatting with you soon. thanks, dan

You know, that type of story is traditionally set forth in about 10 days- 01APR.
A good mix of true ones and uhm, embellished ones makes for a fun April Fool's Day.
And please remember to NOT spill the beans as soon as you realize YOU got suckered in, let others join the sucker pool first.
It's only proper etiquette.

my word is my bond........
octania, i can understand your skepticism. this interweb thingy is full of untruths and full-on scams. i am a man of honor. as the title of this reply states "MY WORD IS MY BOND". because of all of the deception in todays world, people automatically assume something is a lie. i feel sorry for people who feel this way.
life is too short to live without faith and truth. i have nothing to gain by lying to all of the folks here. i dont find pleasure by decieving and trying to make fools of others. that is not what i consider entertainment. when it comes down to it, all we have is our WORDS. if you need proof of everything, i CAN prove everything i stated through copies of titles of vehicles i once owned. i can also show my financial papers. provide character references but i dont think that will be necessary. well.....shouldnt need to explain myself, but, be as it may, enough said. looking forward to "talk" with all my fellow oldsmobile fans.....

Welcome aboard,
Loved the story, and keep as many pictures of the out of the barn shots as you can because you will appreciate those as much as the finished and ready for show shots as time goes by. Something about looking back, the then and now thing.
Keep us up on your build ....Lost in the fifties ...Tedd

Dan, welcome aboard, and nice score on that 53!
Actually it was easier to read with the larger font. Some of us old guys with bifocals appreciate that even though it makes your 'post' look longer. You'll find that with most of us, it's the story that's important.
Would be a tad easier though if you had broken it up into some paragraphs. And, don't be worried about being on here too long. I like to browse through the posts sometimes for hours.
Looking forward to the pics on the engine build and install. Any pics of the car's interior?

Jeepers! At first you had me worried. Nice to see you have a sense of humor too!
