Talking First Post

Newbie here. My first car was a 57 Olds Super 88. I am currently working on what I believe will be my last one (unless I find another 57 Super 88) which is a 1961 Olds Super 88 Holiday 2 dr coupe (bubbletop) always wanted one of these now I have one. Will post pics in a day or two. Have been a gearhead my whole life & even owned a car lot which was my big toy box. Found this car & it had been sitting in a garage for the last 15 yrs & had not been started, all tires were dry rotted & flat, front wheels were froze up, my tow guy had fun getting it on his rollback & getting it off. It is currently running & moving but directionals-horn-heater controls & radio are not working but this isn't my first rodeo & have restored numerous classic's just not too many GM's mostly Mopars. I will have ?'s but not until I can't figure out how to fix what is wrong. After 15 yrs in an unheated garage I can bet most of the grounds & contacts will need cleaned. All hoses-belts-etc will need changed most of you folks already know that. Have found some of the diagrams i need on the site already. So Thanks it is nice to have somewhere you can go to get the info needed.

Welcome to the site! You might enjoy reading through the post below. It's another member here who picked up a 1961 Olds that had been sitting for a long time. It may be a different model than yours, but he still may have gone through some of the same issues you'll be encountering. John

Thanks for the Welcomes. 2blu already read that one & it did help. Thanks- Here are some pics. Car is complete except for the passengers side lower chrome. Back seat is out due to cleaning it. trunk is bungied as I have to fix the lock as it won't unlock. Chrome on this car is amazing & so is the glass.

Most definitely good looking. A car that classy, IMHO, needs to be sporting white wall tires!

D. Yaros that is exactly what my wife said when she saw it. I told her maybe or maybe raised white letter tires. S/E Wisc, My wife & I are both originally from the Lake Geneva area.

And, you should listen to your wife. She knows of what she speaks!

Lake Geneva not too far from me, in Milw.

Very nice! Welcome to CO. You have all winter to work on it and then all summer to show her off! I agree, white walls...and fuzzy dice.

Had the fuzzy dice in 2 days ago. Going to have to put some lifters in it though. Have a couple that are clackin pretty loud & have a water leak coming thru the middle of the front cradle & for the life of me I can't seem to find where it is leaking from. Changed all the heater hoses checked the water pump the only thing I can think of is a front freeze plug but none of my books have the 394 ci motor in it so I don't know if there is 1 in the front but would think there would be. Have to find out where I can get a shop manual for these cars/motors. Drove it in the yard today & you just can't beat these cars, rides like a dream with plenty of power.

Go to wildaboutcars.com and set up a free account. They have repair manuals for your '61 88.
