Greatings!

I got my '72 Cutlass Supreme convertible on July 11, 1982, 5 days after I turned 16. I drove it daily for the next 6 years, except for a break where I had a fairly bad accident, and had to put it back together.

At the 6 year mark, the Cutlass got parked, and driven very little. My dad decided HE wanted to play with it, so it went to live with him. It stayed with him until 7 years ago, when he moved to Costa Rica, and I regained possession!

My dad did some good things, installed a 455, Edelbrock heads, Baer brakes, H-O Racing Strong-Arm springs & rear sway bar, 700R4,.... but he was also rough on the car and it needed paint & body.

More later,
Lee Atkinson

Thanks guys!

Here is a pic of how it currently looks
IMG_2288.jpg

I've been playing with Olds and Pontiacs since before I started driving. I've p!ssed off a LOT of Pontiac guys by telling them that I feel the 403 Olds is superior to the 400 Pontiac. But, I've also irked many Olds guys by telling them the Pontiac 455 is better than the Olds 455. I have had ALL of them, raced all of them, driven them all on the street, worked on all of them, and that is just what I seen, so

I had a '67 Firebird for a long time, and it got a little bit of publicity (Feb '05 issue High Performance Pontiac, pages 1 & 3 of this link) http://www.highperformancepontiac.co...t_2/index.html

I had some "life" problems, and sold the Firebird - but was able to keep teh Cutlass! It wasn't an easy call, as the Firebird was MUCH faster and looked much better as well. But I just could not part with the Cutlass.

The recent years have been good to me, though. I've gotten the Cutlass repainted, and started working on it again.

After nearly 30 years of Pontiac and Olds, I decided to try something different, just "because." I guess I did a decent job on it, as Popular Hot Rodding gave me six pages!
http://www.popularhotrodding.com/fea...con/index.html
I've changed the motor since the article, it is now a Dart based 427 inch Windsor. I've gotten 483hp at the wheels (434tq), and at an 1/8-mile track recorded a 7.03 @ 98mph - HOPING to get it into the 10's soon. It is pump-gas only, and VERY streetable - I put 4,405 miles on it in June, driving it on the Hot Rod Power Tour.

more in a bit...

Thanks for the hospitality!

My goal is to get the car back into daily-driver (in nice weather) condition. The Falcon wagon has eaten up all my time/money for the last few years, but I've now deemed that project "complete" and will now focus on the Cutlass!

I took the Falcon on the Hot Rod Power Tour this year, with my 16 year old son and one of his friends. My goal is to have the Cutlass in good enough shape to take it on the 2013 Power Tour.

Thank you It is one of those colors that I would NEVER select from a color chart! But it is the original color, and sets the car apart from most of the others.

The car has been repainted several times, over the 29 years that the car has been owned by my dad and myself. Each time the color has come out a little different. I think even the color of the primer coat has an effect on the final color. It is supposed to be "Saddle Bronze Metallic."

I'll try to dig out & scan some of the pictures from back in '82, when it had a white top & interior, 14" Rally wheels and whitewall tires.

I went on this years Hot Rod Power Tour also. I think saw your car a few time. You might have seen my 67 Cutlass. I was parked with Dakota Digital in the vendor's area every day except Saturday the day of registration.

Did you do the Long Haul? My son and I did. This was our first Long Haul and hope do to it again in 2012.

Welcome to forum...

T. C.,

YEP! We Long Hauled! 4,405 miles total for us. Raced in both GA and TN, and did well enough to win a case of Royal Purple both times. I had over 300# of luggage and tools in the back of the car when I raced, as well :-)

I do remember seeing your car by the Dakota setup - VERY nice!

No A/C, manual steering, manual brakes, no radio, a large double pumper, and a solid roller cam - it was cool to be able to pull it off, but I'll at least have A/C before I do another one!

When I started the rebuild last September for the HRPT I knew A/C was a requirement. The Vintage Air worked great. It kept us cool inside even with the temps in the 100's.

You out did us for distance by about 1,100 miles. I didn't race, only had about 300 miles on the total engine/suspension rebuild before leaving. I just did not want to deal with the hassles of breaking something too far from home. BTW - not one bit of trouble on the tour or the way home.

Oh forgot mention before - nice Falcon!
