i have the ownership in my possession!
my fear is that the VIN tag on the front left corner by the A post my have been removed is there any other body location that I can find the VIN at ?

Welcome.
What model do you have, Cutlass, F85, 442, 88, 98, Toronado.....?

If the engine is original, it should have a partial, matching VIN on the LF corner of the block. I'm sure the experts will chime in to guide you further.

Need. Photos.

Same with the transmission if it is original to the car. It will have a partial VIN stamped into the driver side of the transmission housing.

Perhaps even the VIN # on the car frame. Joe P would be the one who will know if and where to look.

Typically the frame stamp is on top of the driver side frame rail, in front of the rear wheel, but stamps have also been found on the rear crossmember and in other places.

Body and frame have been scrapped. Ok, what do you have ownership of ? What do you have possession of ? What is it that you are seeking ?

Body and frame scrapped? Why? Too far gone? This is an odd thread without any supporting information or pictures.

Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but your description does not imply high value for this "frame-off restoration". Might be better described as "frame-less unrestored"?

If the body and frame have been scrapped your ownership papers are just artifacts but have no value. Even if you have the VIN plate, putting it on a different car is illegal/fraud.

So you have a pile of '68 parts...what are you hoping to learn about them or do with them?

I wouldn't have wanted to be the guy who took the parts off the car while it was in a driveway during these recent cold temperatures in March up here in Ontario.
How did you get the parts from him?
So much for an inherited frame off resto 68 I guess. Sad to hear .

Why does it sound to me like this guy is fishing for information on VIN locations ?
And now he has all the parts , except for the body and frame ? Which have been scrapped ?

Brauwz , if you're still with us , I will tell you this . There are VIN 's all over that car . On many different parts .
If you sell even one of those parts with a number , and it's HOT , it could be a ticket to JAIL !

The Oldsmobile community is rather small and tight knit . It's a very poor place to carry on " Monkey Business " !
Just sayin'

Tis is indeed a strange thread. It has gone from "frame-off restoration, on a trailer in your driveway" to frame and body off in the grass and a pile of OEM parts looking for a VIN.....

Certainly is!
If things don't line up to be legit, he won't last long here.
Kijiji/flea bay will be his only option if that's the case.
