Cracking noise when convertible top is let down (72 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme)

I have a 1972 Convertible Cutlass Supreme and whenever I let the top back I hear a crackling noise. I am wondering is this normal for this make and model. I know someone who has 75 convertible delta 88 and I hear no cracking noise when they let their top down.

Did you used to have a glass rear window? Har har har har.

But seriously, folks...

When I had A-body convertibles, I never heard any cracking sounds when lowering the top.

I don't know what came on the car originally from GM but when I purchased it the guy had a plastic curtain and vinyl top. Then I put a canvas top with a glass curtain. The guy that I know with the delta88 has a vinyl top with a glass curtain but he is missing the curtain.

Also, the guy at the interior shop told me that my frame was good and not bent. I got a new pump and lines as well.

I had something similar on mine. Solved it with this bolt and pivot set from TPP.
The nylon bushings were worn.

Sampson thank you very much for the tip. Were they easy to install?

It was not too hard. I did one at a time. You have to be a bit of a contortionist to get to some of them. All my bolts were good but there was some slop in the nylon bushings. Good luck.

Lol a contortionist. Ok I will have to get back there and see because I'm not sure how the nylon bushings look.
