Bumpers for 1953 Olds 98

Newbie from central Illinois with a newly acquired partially restored 1953 Olds 98. Overall a very nice, rust free car with just two exceptions...the front and rear bumpers were removed from the car during early restoration years ago and stored outside. I'm afraid they are beyond replating so any leads on replacement bumpers are very much appreciated.

Hi there,

I was on ebay a couple days ago and recall seeing bumper/bumper components for a '53 98. You might do a search there and see what you can find that would be of use to you. Good luck with your restoration.

Welcome aboard, parts are out there but for a 53 it's not going to be easy. I assume you have tried all the usual places like Ebay and Craigs list. As a last resort you might take your bumpers to the platers and see what they say, they may surprise you, some can bring things back from the dead. Good to see another fifties era car guy joining the forum......Lost in the fifties ...Tedd

I agree with the advice about checking with a re-plater. Some wonders have been done in the past by talented people. If that doesn't work you could try

They are not close to you, but they have a lot of old stuff.

There was a front bumper core listed for a 1954 Olds this week on Nashville Craigslist. Looked like a very good core to rechrome for only $30. I don't know if it would fit the '53! Just to be sure you find it , it was listed on Nashville Craigslist (Hendersonville, Tn.). Larry

The 29th Hollander seems to indicate that they are the same. The only bumper differences between 88 & 98 on 1953 that I can find are the gravel deflectors for the REAR bumper.
