A Brit who is now a Yank

Hello all. I am an ex-British Firefighter (27yrs) and I moved to the USA in 2007 to marry my American wife. I have always wanted to own a classic car and when I went to look at the Cutlass I just fell in love with it. So I will be asking lots of questions and looking for lots of parts.

Welcome to ClassicOlds, mate!

Since you've been marooned in the Colonies for so many years, we probably won't need to make use of any of our resident Brits to translate.

Sorry I forgot to say it's a 1964 F85 V8 4 Door. I started a thread in the projects section with some pics.

Your first post is not correct, but your second post is. Being a 4-door, your F-85 is not a Cutlass. It is either an F-85 4-door sedan or an F-85 Deluxe 4-door sedan. In 1964, all Cutlasses were two-doors (post, hardtop, or convertible). Post the car's VIN and a photo of the body cowl tag (under the hood on the driver's side firewall). We can tell more about your car from those. If your car is an F-85, the VIN will start 804. If it is an F-85 Deluxe, it will start 814. The "8" means an 8-cylinder engine, and the "4" indicates model year 1964. Following these three numbers will be a letter designating the plant of manufacture followed by six digits indicating the production sequence number at that plant. VIN's back in those days didn't indicate much more than you could tell by just looking at the car, but it will confirm which F-85 4-door you have.

Thanks for the tip, when I went out this morning to start some work on the car I noticed a F85 Deluxe emblem on the dash.
