bought 1970 toronado for daughter

1970

We bought this for our daughter and she is soooo in love with it. needs work and may need some advice on some things to make him/ the car run a little bit better or where to get parts.((daughter named him gray even though it is green????)..as we have already had to drop the tank, needed a fuel sending unit....gas tank vent...thing..having some electrical issues but the right now focusing on the fuel...but hopefully we ordered the right one...fuel sending unit... off the internet since we cant seem to get that part anywhere...auto zone....napa...small..town...but they ..the reps... haven't even seen this type of car ....ever..so not sure what to think about them helping us too much...and i have read a lot in the last hour on how parts can be interchangeable with other model cars...hope yall can help if it is needed here...and i hope that i can help someone else in the future when we know more about this car and the parts and ect......

thanks

Welcome to CO. Nothing unusual about counter help in auto supply stores having no information about anything older than about 1990. If the car isn't listed on their computer they HATE having to get off the computer and look it up in their books. Likely the car is a good bit older than they are and some may barely remember the name Oldsmobile. Afraid you are pretty much on your own unless you can find an older counter guy who knows something and was trained on using actual paper parts catalogs. We have such a guy in our little town at the local NAPA. I go out of my way to have him wait on me. He kind of likes the challenge of finding obscure parts for vintage cars. I hope you can find someone similar. Buying off the Internet is such a crap shoot.

Nice Toro. Try Fusicks and Rock Auto.

Welcome and beautiful car. Don't be surprised if you can't find a replacement fuel sender. They may not be sold, due to a lack of demand. There are vendors who can rebuild your old one, or you may need to find a good used one as your only other option. That is unfortunately one of the facts of life in owning an older car like this that is not a mainstream collectible. Repro parts often just don't exist.

Why do you think you need a new one? If the gauge isn't working, there are a lot of possible causes, only one of which is the sender.
