Barn Find - 70 Rallye 350

I'm the second owner of this 70 Rallye 350 S.

Original owner bought it new and drove it until 88, parking it in the barn where she waited patiently to be resurrected.

I've restored cars before, never an olds. I have all kinds of questions ! I'll ask those in the appropriate forums, but figured I would introduce myself !

I just pulled her out the barn a few days ago. Not many pics yet. I always snap a couple from the barn before getting detail pics.

From what I can see she is a Holiday made in Lansing. Front disks and power steering. Turbo 350 auto trans.

Some electrical stuff was hodge podged, as the old timers tended to do. Everything else is shockingly stock

Nope, NY car
Original owner was buddies with the owner of the local car dealership. The family still has the original paperwork in a box somewhere. Hope they find it eventually !

Welcome to the forum. Quite the barn find. From the looks of the barn roof, just in the Nick of Time.

68K. Dude had a maintenance notebook filled out with everything he did, when, and what it cost under the front seat. I sat down with a beer and read through it, was a pretty neat piece of history. Interesting to see how much stuff cost over the years. Car's older than me by a decade so it's real neat to see how things were

Good stuff, great mileage. We share drive-trains save for the rear-end, you are a minimum 3.23 to my 2.78, should run sweet. Probably just the amount of gear my car needs to run the way I want it too...

What are your plans ?

I'm not entirely sure yet.
I bought everything I might need to get her driving, entire brake system, plugs, wires, water pump, every piece of rubber, pertronics to get rid of points and condenser. I quit smoking so I don't know what the hell I would do without a matchbook to set points = P
The interior is moldy as all hell so it is going to take some serious elbow work to get her cleaned up. Drivers seat is beat up the rest are in great shape.
Other than that the original owner really never messed with anything and kept the car super intact. I do not know if the car warrants a frame up resto. I would probably never get remotely close to getting the money back. So I am going to get her rolling and see where the wind takes me from there.

Sounds good, I have never dealt with a car that sat that long. Longest for me was 7 years, an Oldsmobile and it worked out well. Now 32 years is a whole new ball game but something tells me its gonna work out well for you too... Best of luck and please keep us informed.

Sounds similar to my car when I bought it out of a salvage yard lot on the Gulf Coast. A spray bottle of 409, a scrub sponge, and a lot of labor and the interior cleaned up very nicely.

Looks like a great car to start with! Keep us posted on it. Finally a real "barn find". If I had a dollar for everytime I see that on craigslist I'd be rich man. Best to you.

Welcome, that one might be a good example to keep as a " survivor". Frame off restorations are extremely expensive. If that is as good as it looks maybe you could clean it up, make it safe and enjoy it .
