Im aware this isnt anyones ideal cutlass but its my Sons car, he's 10 and has Autism i recently got screwed over by a mechanic and was forced to have the heads shaved and reseal all the way up, my question is can the car slip time just from removing the heads and lower/upper intake i never messed with the cam or cam shaft. Please help me!!
I don't think it should have jumped time. The only issue when removing the heads are there are two different length pushrods for that engine and they need to be put in the correct location or you can cause damage. Intake pushrods are shorter than the exahust pushrods. Can bend pushrods if installed in the wrong place. A guy I worked with years ago mixed up the pushrods, however I can't remember if he bent a valve or not.
I was real careful with the push rods and made sure they all went in the correct order. I didn't have a lot of power left in my battery when i turned it over so, that being said all of the pulleys spun but nothing cranked over. It was after i discovered a fuel leak but nothing cranking concerns me, i was assured i wouldnt have to mess with the timing when i started this. Any help is appreciated
The timing should not have been affected by pulling the heads... Not sure what you mean by "Nothing cranking"... If the pulleys are turning, then the starter is obviously turning the crank shaft which subsequently turns the pulleys... If you are not seeing the valve train moving, rockers and push rods, then there is a good chance the cam shaft is broke... Seen this happen a couple times, even on my own 97 Cutlass 3.1.... Could also be a timing chain problem...You never said why you had to remove the heads, that info may also help resolve your issue...
